Nice, I really like the UID idea, I first played with UID on Firebase, where every user has their own UID.
So, basically to own a short name you either have to:

• Have more money then the other users to outbid them or
• The community ( maybe followers of sorts) can help you lend ( some kind of delegation) you the VIEW tokens?
