The Plight (and Promise) of the Gummy Bear

As the midday sun began to liquify his delicious, gelatinous insides, the gummy bear began to dream of a world he believed would exist by now.

He and his gummy brethren and sistren, with their myriad of colors and flavors, represented an enlightened utopia where one's color or flavor or sexual orientation, did not cause judgment from others.

The gummy bears were like the Three Muskateers.

They were all for one and one for all!

People did not like the yellow gummy bear better than the orange gummy bear. They did not throw out the red ones or try to give them away to an unsuspecting younger sibling.

They took six to twelve at a time, did not even look down to see what color they were, and tossed them like a confectionary catapult into their gummy grinder.

Now he lay dying, melting into the road.

As time gave way to produce the genetically engineered super sour or super sweet frankencandies, he and his gummy brethren and sistren were no longer embraced by the masses.

They no longer had front row seats in the balcony section of the movie theatre.... concession stand.

They were relegated to the tiny palms and mouths of small children, where all colors and flavors are still embraced without judgment.

Maybe it is time for the gummy bear to evolve, created by steem, where diversity is embraced and the gummy bear can feel loved by many once again.
