China's warships to the Maldives
Emergency is going on in the political crisis due to Maldives Among these, 11 warships in China have entered the eastern Indian Ocean. In all, the situation of the Maldives of the island country is now more in crisis.
Meanwhile, India has urged the Maldives not to prolong the state of emergency. Speaker of South Asian Cooperation Organization (SAARC) speaker and parliament members called on the Maldivian parliament Speaker to act immediately to bring normalcy to the country.
On February 1, the Maldivian Supreme Court ordered the release of nine political leaders who were found guilty of involvement in terrorism. Among them, there is also the democratically elected President Mohamed Nasheed in the country of self-exile. Nasheed was convicted of terrorism in 2015. Then he was sentenced to 13 years in prison, which is alleged to be politically motivated. On the same day, the highest court gave the order to bring 12 lawmakers, who were expelled from Yemen's party, to their respective posts. The government's party will lose majority in the 85-member assembly of the Maldives if the expulsion is withdrawn from the 12 lawmakers. However, on Sunday, the Supreme Court lifted the order to withdraw the expulsion from opposition lawmakers on Sunday.
Since the order of the Supreme Court, the government-court contradiction has come into the public. On February 6, the state of President Abdullah Yamin issued a state of emergency on February 6. On Tuesday, the state of emergency was over. But the president's demand for the state of emergency has increased by one more month yesterday.
But the United States, India, Canada and the United Nations urged President Yamin to bring an emergency to normalize the situation.
China's media news agency Sina.com said on Sunday that China's warships entered the eastern Indian Ocean this month. It has several destroyers, at least one frigate, 30 thousand tons of amphibious ships and three support tankers. But why this ship entered the region, China did not give any explanation for it. Contacted with the Chinese Ministry of Defense about the matter, there was no reply. Sina.Com.cn did not specify the exact date of the ship's journey.
There is hostility between India and China with the influence of the Indian Ocean's Maldives on the island of the Indian Ocean. This hostility becomes more prominent after signing President Yamin in a 'Zone, One Road' agreement with Beijing. China has taken this initiative to build a trade and communications network on the continent of Asia and beyond. "We hope the Maldives will not prolong the state of emergency," the Indian Foreign Ministry said in a statement yesterday. "It is also said that after the withdrawal of the state of emergency, the democratic institutions including the judiciary will have to operate independently and conduct a fair and transparent program on the constitutional path." Indian Foreign Ministry calls for full implementation of the Supreme Court order on February 1.
Kerry Jayasuriya, chairperson of the SAARC Speaker and Members of Parliament, has expressed concern over the Maldives political situation. In a letter written to the Maldivian Speaker Abdullah Masih Mohammed, Kara Jayasuriya talks through a discussion to find a peaceful solution of the situation. Jayasuriya wrote, "We urge the Majlish (Maldivian Parliament) to investigate the solution for you, so that the elected Majlish members can assure the people about performing their constitutional duties and conduct free and fair elections."
