I Write Great Content, Yet I Don't Get Curated. Is This The Steemit We Were Promised?

The day I joined Steemit was one I would always remember. I was amazed and happy that such a community like this existed. Where I could flex my creative wings, get recognized and appreciated for my talent. But Alas, that is not the case.

I see a lot of minnows with beautiful content, their content pushed to the bottom of every category they write in because of lack of votes.
The simple fact is, on Steemit those who get votes are those who have money, like @berniesanders @dan @ben @jerrybanfield @surpassinggoogle and the rest of the whales. The others are those who kiss the ASS of those who have money and the rest are those who buy votes from bots.

This should not be so, honestly. I mean, one day I saw a post from a whale who posted about two lines and he had over $300 in the post, with the comment section filled with hungry and affection starved minnows hoping to get one vote or the other from the whale who wrote the post. It was disgusting and revolting to watch.

I have to ask ..

Am I wrong to not follow the crowd and suck up to these whales?

Is it a form of hubris that I refuse to kiss their asses?

Because sometimes I sit and I wonder if I'm the only one who notices this mental oppression. Hardly will you see minnows that are creative on this platform anymore because they are busy chasing the favor of the whales so they can get rewards, with no room for innovation. Myself, as a minnow I tried starting up a contest that would require minnows to tap into their creative sides - The My-Niche Contest where I even flat out begged for whales to at least show interest and support the contest, but all the four sessions of the competition never made up to $1. And everyday we see people on Steemit who just post irrelevant content and they get heavy curation on their account.

Communities???

This pissed me off the most. I was in about 3 Steemit whatsapp groups that had an average of 3 whales per group. You could see the minnows all day long sucking up and ass kissing. I was embarrassed on their behalf. And the whales they were sucking up to don't even give a crap about them. The whales don't upvote them, yet day by day the ass licking continues. Why would someone keep doing that? Why will you keep doing that to yourself?

One day, a whale in the group tried to make a post on Steemit but for one reason or the other, the post published twice instead of once. So he spoke about it and immediately a foolish minnow ran to Steemit to post it, hoping the whale will upvote him. Can you see what we have been reduced to?

Now what is the way forward???

Just FUCKING SUPPORT US!! Show Us attention.

I know a lot of the whales are millionaires in their own right and they run successful and thriving business on the offline.. But you can delegate your resting steempower or your voting power. Just DO SOMETHING!

Is Steemit A Scam?

read one of your comments on another article and decided to give you a follow and upvote.

Things won’t change overnight or easily. People will do what they can to get ahead and try and make some money. People who have nothing will do this and people who have a lot, will also do this.

I am from a socialist country and even though I am a believer in crypto currencies and financial independence, I still believing in helping those with less and the society you live in.

Keep up the good work and don’t get discouraged! We only have this one life, so make it into what you think it should be, and how the future should look like.

You're not wrong; I've put dozens of great articles and hardly get a look, but as you say, those who put a few words and a picture get loads of views and so on...I'm disappointed in steemit that quality doesn't get recognised, but trash does...

Hmm @awolesigideon you have provided a very interesting rant!!
In reply to disgust over the set up with minnows grovelling and kissing bums just to get money: what the hell do you expect??? This cryptocurrency site is based on finance; no matter which financial site you go to there will be the newbies (minnows) kissing arse to get a foot up. It's the same everywhere!!
As for recognition for work: bulldust!! There are writers groups (I'm with the freeweriters and love it) there's photography groups etc with seniors supporting newer members. The new members have to get off their bott and research and find these groups. And there's competitions etc So don't tell me me that minnows aren't being given opportunity (they are) while whales are holding onto their cash (it's their doh - they can keep it if they choose!) I have no complaints with Steemit - but each to their own!! 😁

I understand your view, but I was led to believe steemit is about improving the community. You call it a financial platform, but u hope you know that if all the creativity is leached out, the finance will become obsolete. This platform thrives based on mining by writing words. And good content. If we don't have that anymore we are getting on the wrong side of a precipice heading down to irrelevance.

There are whales that sometimes vote, but they are not going to vote for someone if they see it as "sucking up". I have not done a close and careful examination, but like almost any group of individuals, they tend to hang around with those they have known the longest. Some that have been around awhile do greet new members, some do not. There are a lot of people joining all the time.

I remember when I first joined @firepower was greeting a lot of people, he would spend hours on the introduceyourself tag and give a vote and say hello to those new users. He got accused of somehow or another of gaming the system and being a bot by someone. I do not remember all the details, but the accusations were totally uncalled for.

I don't know if he still greets new users or not. But there are groups that try to help out new users. Some of the support comes from low level whales, (I think but am not sure), and some pretty well off dolphins. @greetersguild, @newbieresteemday, and a few others that I can not recall at this moment. Those two groups were formed by people that did not even have 500SP and vote sliders. Yes, like any place in the world there are going to be bad neighborhoods, but not all the "communities" on steemit are exclusionary, Look for a "team" tag like @teamnigeria, @teamusa, @teamcanada, ect...find one for your area, then look in there and see if you can find the support you need.

Meanwhile continue to feel free to use our drop box over at newbie discord chat, I have dropped my long add style comment and now will just be my comment alone with an occasional mention of the communities I try to help via a small vote and comment.

But really Gideon, we're our own problem. We need to orientate our minds, our whales as you have rightly stated are consumed with work load, too much attention and who will I attend to and who I should not?
Maybe if we can stop acting as a stooge for them, they will change their mindset that we're desperate for a cash on steemit. Because truth be told We're desperate people.

Another thing is this, most of those minnows that join steemit, come with empty hands. Maybe if we can start telling them to make investment in the community. Which will enhance the growth of the Steem Block-chain, their stay in the community and growth on the platform too.

for starters, welcome to the real world.
Why do i say that? steemit is powered by steem blockchain which is decentralized as such, everyone on their own. learn the system and know that you work your way up. When i joined steemit, i read and comment to some days hundreds of posts as such, build up my followers gradually and get upvotes from those i commented in their posts and made contacts with. in steemit, you work your ass out if you don't have the fiat to come in and stack up enough steem to have good power.
More so, since there are bid based bots, and delegation of steem power, most folks now sell their steem power as such for any post to gain traction, folks here now use bots.
I have been writing against such but you cannot advice people how to use their money can you?

best get acquainted to bots and use some, join some minnowsupport groups, link on their discord channels, make friends and have some good following. Know this, steemit is like a great ocean, not all the small fishes will survive the whales and big sharks, only the strong who persever and takes time to learn how to surf the tide will survive.
just keep your head up mate and lets keep in touch...

Welcome dear. 😎

Well... Dear friend, nothing could have been truer.
I really don't know why one should post really quality content and get little rewards. And YES this place is full of bootlickers. Really disgusting. Fucking annoying.
Most people don't give a shot about the next person.
I haven't been active because I got tired. Really really tired. Stories have surfaced about people telling lies about what they really do in the community in order to get favors. Is this what humanity has turned into?

It's been a while I stopped by your blog...
But am glad I did today..
What a wonderful post.
Others have said it all in their comments and I have nothing more to say....
I just love the fact that you spoke up and it's really funny that you got a more curation for this...
Couldn't help but vote and resteem this to sow my support and I'll be fearuring this particular post this Saturday to spread the word that this is really not the steemit we were promised .. just give me the permission to do this please
