Is it okay to give a wig to a Black female friend as a New Year's gift?

in #wigyesterday

To be honest, when I first considered giving a wig to my Black female friend as a New Year's gift, I was a little hesitant. After all, in many people's minds, a wig seems like a "very personal" item, and I was afraid that giving the wrong one might seem presumptuous. But after actually giving it, I realized that this worry was a bit unnecessary.

Almost all of my Black female friends have worn wigs. Whether for daily work, parties, or holiday photos, wigs are no longer just a tool for "covering up," but a very normal, even important, styling choice. For them, glueless wigs are like handbags, perfume, or cosmetics – items that allow them to freely change their style.

For New Year's, I chose a naturally Burmese curly hair wig for a close friend. It wasn't an exaggerated style, but a texture she usually likes, just with a slightly upgraded length and layers. Her first reaction upon receiving it wasn't surprise, but pure joy, and she even tried it on for me right away. She said it perfectly solved her problem of not wanting to bother with her hair during the New Year's holiday.

Later, I realized that the key isn't whether or not to give a wig, but whether you truly understand her preferences. If you know whether she prefers natural curls or straight hair, short or long hair, and whether she prioritizes convenience or sophistication in her daily life, then a wig is actually a very thoughtful New Year's gift.

So my conclusion is: Yes, and it's a very practical and thoughtful New Year's gift. The prerequisite is that you don't just buy any wig, but choose a style that she will actually wear and wants to wear, from her perspective.
