When I think about what people call a portrait, I dwell on the idea of ​​emotion.

If we see emotions in a painting that literally speak to us, it's definitely a portrait, no matter who's in front of me—a person, a dog, a cat, or perhaps an inanimate acorn whose appearance expresses bewilderment and disappointment, because, having expected to fall from an oak tree onto fertile soil where it could take root, it instead landed on the surface of the stump of another, older oak.
