A Slow Start to 2026...

Writing and creativity are — at least for me — driven by mood and inspiration. If I don't "feel like it," pretty much nothing creative comes from my mind... or keyboard.

I have never been "one of those" who could just sit down to a blank page and come up with something. Ultimately, it's one of the primary reasons why I never became a "professional" writer or artist.

So far, 2026 is getting off to a very slow start.

Without getting too woo-woo about it, the background energy of the world has felt very jagged and uninspiring, so far. While I had hoped to get off to a running start, it has been quite the opposite, so far.

Seems I am not alone, however.

In talking to some of my fellow creatives, it seems a lot of us are feeling stifled by anxiety, as much as anything. The world is particularly turbulent at the moment, and that makes it difficult to express creatively.

Growing up in Denmark in the 1970's, we were still living under the shadow of the "Cold War," and there was always a lingering awareness that things could go very wrong at a moment's notice. I'm sad to admit that 50 years later, I am experiencing those feelings again. I didn’t really understand what they meant back then...

I suppose I might be less concerned if I weren't a Danish person living in the USA, and Greenland is in the news a lot, and Greenland is part of Denmark.

I suppose we should not worry about things that are outside our control, but it's difficult sometimes.

It's strange, but if you'd asked me 20 years ago whether the world would become this messed up by 2026, I would likely have laughed. But here we are...

But getting back to creativity, it is slow to come, and I feel a bit sad that my creative hopes are already running behind, after less than a month.

But you don't always get what you want!
