It's Never Too Late!

in WORLD OF XPILAR2 days ago

I was having lunch with a friend, and the conversation drifted onto the topic of whether I was still blogging, and I allowed us how much of my writing was being done on social venues related to crypto, e.g. Steemit.

My friend's response — more or less — amounted to "isn't it too late to get into crypto?"

Of course, as far as I'm concerned, it's never too late to get into things. I think a lot of people miss great opportunities because they go on the assumption that it is somehow "too late" to start something if they weren't among the very first who started using or adopting whatever it is we're talking about.

It's no more "too late" to get into crypto than it is too late to start using technology or too late to get in shape. I think it is fairly safe to say that crypto is not a novelty flash in the pan like 8-track tapes.

But the question got me thinking about different aspects of life people often (falsely) use the "too late" phrase with.

I often hear it in connection with a variety of creative endeavors, like it being "too late" to learn how to be a painter, or "too late" to learn to play the piano. Makes me wonder why people would say such a thing when lots of people take these up, even in their retirement years. What are they really trying to avoid?

Similarly, I have heard quite a few people —particularly in midlife — declare that it is "too late" to fall in love and have a happy marriage, or "too late" to find the love of their life. Again, I would put that in the column of totally incorrect, having watched a number of people find love both in midlife and in late life. Once again, I start wondering what they're trying to avoid.

Sadly, there are remarkably many people in this world who almost make a career out of being unhappy, and out of complaining about things that never turned out their way. Reflecting on those who insist that a number of things are simply "too late" for them, I can't help but wonder whether they are simply afraid that they would lose part of their purpose in life if they no longer had something missing that they could complain about!

Not so long ago, I almost started to fall into the "too late" trap.

Over the past couple of years, I have been gradually winding down a couple of my home businesses which have had declining sales for half a decade for various reasons. Along with that arises the need for me to find something else to do to replace the income that I will have lost. For a while I found myself thinking that perhaps it was "too late" for me to reinvent myself for the umpteenth time and start another new business.

But I quickly got over myself and found a way to modify one of the slowing businesses, and seeing it as an opportunity to focus more on developing and marketing my artwork as one of the "fill-in" propositions.

I am used to making ends meet with very little, and try to choose to be grateful for what I have rather than focusing excessively on the things I don't have.

Regardless, I think it is almost never too late for anything. Sure, you may have arrived too late for a train or a flight, but it's not just too late to start something that could change your life for the better!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week ahead!
