The Crazy Scares Me!
Maybe I am deluding myself, but sometimes it just feels like the "Crazy Level" in our world is tending towards a maximum.
Maybe "crazy" is not the right word here...
Maybe the word I am looking for is extremism.
Part of me feels like the world is being run by extremists who have managed to scare the majority middle into hiding in their homes because expressing any opinion that doesn't overlap 100% with those claiming to "lead us" will likely get us hurt... because those opinions don't stand on free will, they stand only by instilling "fear of consequences" in everyone.
Makes me wonder whether we're finally at the edge of the "end times" doomsday preppers have been warning us about, for all these decades?
Or is that merely what they want us to believe?
I don't much get into politics, itself... so much as the psychology of politics, which I find fascinating.
The more I look around me — at least as I can look here in the USA — the more I just see waves of fear over absolutely everything. That... and a bunch of people "mislabeling" everything as "patriotism" and "freedom."
Which strikes me as patent nonsense. Platitudes for those trained to stay too ignorant to question anything in depth.
But what makes it actually crazy is that so many of these claims made seem like they were grabbed out of thin air, and even a couple of minutes of research with pretty much any search tool would tell you that the "facts" been shared are actually pure fabrication.
I have Facebook friends (Yes, I still have a Facebook account...) who send me these alleged "New Stories" and when I turn around and ask whether they actually vetted any of the information it is suddenly ME who's paranoid and deranged for not just blindly agreeing...
For all their other dubious practices when it came to child rearing, I will say that one of the things my parents got right was teaching me how to think for myself rather than being swept along in "popular group think."
Of course, thinking for yourself doesn't exactly make you popular, particularly if the conclusions you reach don't exactly fit the consensus of the moment.
Self-awareness and thinking for yourself is often a lonely path, and one that will get you beaten down by those who feel attacked if you ask them to explain their perspective, let alone challenge them on it.
And the crazy really starts scaring me when they start insisting that something obviously false is actually the truth... and the actual truth is "fake news."
I'd just as well get off the carnival ride at that point... because it starts to scare me.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!
How about YOU? Do you think the world is getting crazier, or at least increasingly dominted by extremists? Does it scare you, or do you take it in stride? Leave a comment if you feel so inclined — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!
