Yesterday is History, Tomorrow is Uncertain...

Someone once said to me "We only have this moment, so make the most of it!"

At the time, I had only just finished University and I wasn't entirely sure what he meant... perhaps due to a lack of life experience.

All these years later, I have come to recognize and understand just how much time we spend in reflection of things that have already happened and thus have moved beyond our ability to change them.

As humans, we often spend an inordinate amount of time thinking compulsively about past events, sometimes driving ourselves into an anxious frenzy over things we have absolutely no power to change.

Logically speaking, it seems like a complete waste of time, and yet? We do it, all the time!

I know I am personally guilty of spending much too much time in my head, revisiting times and events gone by, endlessly overanalyzing what happened and what was said, and what I "should" have done differently.

And if I'm not trapped in thoughts of the past, I'm caught in a planning loop about the future.

The thing about the future is that it's always in motion and no matter how well we plan ahead, something invariably changes and renders even the best plans irrelevant or certainly inaccurate.

Just consider something as seemingly simple as trying to predict the price of Steem. We'd like to think that we know what lies ahead, but we end up missing the mark by a mile... and thinking the price will go up when it actually ends up doing the exact opposite... and vice-versa.

Most of the the time, the future ends up being little more than a guess.

Being "present" is harder than it might sound, because it is so easy to compare what's happening to past events... or some future plan we might have made... rather than just allowing ourselves to experience what's taking place.

But doing so does allow for a richer experience of life!
