Competition 58: WATER DROPS
So I took this photo on a very early morning, the kind of morning where everything still feels half asleep. It wasn’t planned at all. I just woke up and decided to step outside for a bit. Sometimes I like doing that, especially when the weather feels calm. That day had that quiet, soft atmosphere, no noise, no rush, just stillness everywhere. The air was cool, not too cold, just enough to make you feel fresh. You could tell the night had just passed not long ago. The ground looked a bit damp, and the plants had that fresh look on them. It didn’t look like it had rained heavily, more like the kind of moisture that settles overnight and stays on surfaces until the sun comes up properly.
I wasn’t really looking for anything to shoot. I was just moving around slowly, observing things the way they were. Sometimes that’s when you find something interesting, when you’re not even trying too hard. It wasn’t harsh or bright, just a soft light coming from the side. When it touched the drops, it gave them a gentle shine. At first, I tried from where I was standing, just a quick shot. But when I checked it, it didn’t feel right. The angle didn’t show what I was actually seeing. The background was too much, and the drops didn’t really stand out the way they did in real life. So I knew I had to adjust.
I moved closer and bent down a bit. I lowered myself until the camera was almost at the same level as the leaf. That change alone made a big difference It made the scene look cleaner and more balanced. I didn’t rush it. I stayed there for some time, just adjusting little by. Some of the drops even showed faint reflections if you looked closely. It wasn’t too obvious, but it was there. The leaf itself had a natural texture that also added to the shot. It wasn’t perfectly smooth, and the drops followed that surface, sitting in different positions. Some were near the edge, some closer to the center. The ones at the edge looked like they might fall, but they stayed there, almost like they were holding on.
There was no strong wind at that moment, which helped a lot. The leaf barely moved, just a slight motion once in a while. If there had been wind, the drops would have fallen or shifted, and I might not have gotten the shot the way I wanted. So in a way, everything just worked together at that time. The environment around me was very quiet. It’s the kind of moment that doesn’t last long, because once the day fully begins, everything changes.
I think what made me stay there longer was not just the photo, but the feeling of the moment. It felt peaceful, like nothing was in a hurry. Standing there, focusing on something as simple as water on a leaf, it made everything slow down a bit.
In the end, the subject itself is very simple. Just a leaf and some water drops.
