🇩🇪 Berlin’s State Election: What’s at Stake?

Berlin is heading toward an important state election on 20 September 2026, when voters will elect a new Abgeordnetenhaus as well as representatives for the city’s 12 district assemblies.

🗳️ 17 parties are contesting the Berlin state election with state or district lists, according to Germany’s Federal Agency for Civic Education.

One notable change is that 16- and 17-year-olds are eligible to vote in the 2026 Abgeordnetenhaus election, subject to the applicable residence and other requirements.

The election is therefore not only about political parties—it is also about the everyday priorities of Berlin’s residents and the policies that will shape the capital in the coming years.
