Elections on Sunday
ON Sunday Honduras will be holding elections for President, 128 Congressmen and 290 Mayors. We have three major parties and two that are just specks on the ballots. Actually one of the presidential candidates from one of the small parties has already walked out of the race and joined one of the larger contenders.
Now of the three big contenders who actually have hopes of winning, we have the candidate for LIBRE which is the party that is currently running the country. They are accused of being communists. Here I must say something, I am always very sad and surprised that so many people, many of them college educated who still predicate this communist bull shit. There is no communism except in theory, no country has ever been communist no communist has ever taken other people's belongings. It is just a theory just as anarchism, libertarianism developed at around the same time, mainly because the thinkers who came up with these ideas were afraid of bankers and oligarchs taking over the World. Alas their fears came true, and the bankers and money people worked so well that people actually vote for them even if it goes against their personal interest. I hold nothing but sadness for these type of people.
So the LIBRE candidate is from what is called the left and I will vote for her. Why? Because the other guys represent a form of government that has kept this country as the second poorest in all America with only Haiti worse than us for nearly 150 years. With that type of baggage I frankly cannot understand anyone voting for them, still these two guys do have a chance of winning.
Now here comes the funny part, one of the contenders, Nasralla has belonged to four different parties in the last ten years and after ten years still has no idea of what he offers the country. He has tried to make an ally out of US President Trump, but yesterday Trump said the ideal candidate was Asfura from the ultra conservative Partido Nacional, even mentioning that Rixi Moncada the LIBRE candidate is a communist and Nasralla is also a communist but in hiding. Something again that saddens me, the President of the USA should know communism is just a boogie man.
I don't like Asfura mainly because he is conservative and I maintain that the one constant in the Universe is change, if you are a conservative you actually are against the one constant in the Universe. Now let's look at the elections themselves. All three major parties accuse the others of trying to perpetrate a fraud. I even saw today on X that the same machines that will be used in Honduras were used in the US election and are China's way of making LIBRE win. NOw I might not be up to date and I might be wrong but up to the 1921 election, vote counting in Honduras is done by hand, to vote you need to have a valid ID and they fill your fingers with indelible ink so you can't vote twice. This ink I know does not certify anything, there must be some chemical that cleans it.
I do know the Partido Nacional and Partido Liberal have accustomed to buy ID cards from people who say they belong to another party and sometimes even have party members vote with these IDs, LIBRE is a newer party I cannot say they have this practice but I do not doubt they do. So yes, there will be irregularities, there will be cries of fraud, but if the electoral tables do their jobs things should come out all right.
So all I really hope for is for fair elections, that the person who gets the most votes wins, and mostly that everything is done in a peaceful way.
