Steem and Hive
A few years ago, when Steem was split into Steem and Hive, I read that most likely Steem would disappear and Hive would become a jugernaut. And actually for a long time Hive outperformed Steem in price most of the time being at least 50% more expensive than Steem and sometimes up to twice as much. Of course, as is to be expected people moved to Hive, as it was, apparently the place to be.
It had a lot of noise emanating from it, a lot of activity and was the birthplace of a lot of experiments. It really looked like Steem would just fade into obscurity and Hive would become a shining light. But it seems something started going bad at Hive and things actually improved at Steemit. I personally found the community in Steemit a warmer place than Hive.
Early this year I decided to get rid of the Hive I owned, I powered down and sold most of what I had, Unfortunately, and I am not talking of a lot of money maybe a little over $200.00, I tried to multiply it on video poker machines and went broke. But that is what I always do, easy come, easy go. I had targeted that money to fix some teeth, luckily I was able to fix them at a cheap Adventist clinic with the last $40.00 I was able to keep.
Well, I decided to keep my Steem on Steemit and also I have over 50,000 Blurt staked at Blurt. Blurt has a very low price, so those 50,000 are not worth much. On the other hand on Blurt I am an Orca Whale, while on Steemit I am just barely a little over halfway to becoming a dolphin. And by the way I am going I think Dolphinhood will have to wait until next year.
But back to Hive, as you can see Hive and Steem have, at the moment very similar prices, both have suffered greatly in these turbulent times, but Hive much more than Steem. Now I don't know why that is, but I would think it is because Hive ownership is very centralized and a group of just a few people make all the moves there. Far from a decentralized entity. Now I know Steemit is also far from decentralized, even though I actually have no idea how it is working now. Is Mr. Justin Sun still the owner of a huge cunk of Steem? I have no idea. This really never really worried me, I am a very small fish, I just go with the current.
But frankly I am amazed that Hive has seen its price go so low, I would have thought they would be more resilient. Of course this is worrisome, could it be the end of Social Crypto platforms? Or maybe things are evolving and new players will take over. Who knows, like I said I am small fry and I don't have much to lose, and I have gained nearly ten years of experience as a very mediocre writer. So to me, it is all profit, both in Steem and in Hive. By the way I still post to Hive, but only the Actifit report.
