There are weekends when several small tasks come together and create a surprisingly satisfying result. This time I completed two small 3D printing projects and regenerated a full batch of silica gel that I use for humidity control. Each task on its own is simple, but together they made the weekend feel productive and well spent.

Over time silica gel absorbs humidity and changes from a bright orange to a dull greenish brown. To restore its full absorption capacity I spread the beads evenly on baking paper and dried them in the oven at a little over 100 Grad Celsius. Gradually the colour returned to a clear and strong orange. It is always satisfying to watch the moisture disappear.
Regenerating instead of regularly buying new silica saves money and material because the process can be repeated again and again without any loss of performance.

After regenerating the silica gel I replaced the drying units inside the AMS so the filament remains stable in terms of humidity. The real improvement of the weekend was finally organising my build plates. I printed custom holders and mounted them on the inside of the cabinet door.

The upper holders now store the plates for the Bambu Lab P1S. The lower row is reserved for the A1 Mini. Until now these build plates were scattered around the room, sometimes lying in the way or still in their original packaging. In some cases I had even forgotten that I still owned them.

Now every build plate has a permanent place. Everything is visible at a glance and immediately ready for use. This change protects the plates from scratches, frees up space and makes the entire workflow more pleasant and efficient.

*Nachdem das Silica regeneriert war habe ich die Trockeneinheiten im AMS ausgetauscht damit das Filament in einem stabilen Feuchtigkeitsbereich bleibt. Die eigentliche Verbesserung an diesem Wochenende war jedoch die Organisation meiner Druckplatten. Hierfür habe ich passende Halter gedruckt und direkt an der Innenseite der Schranktür befestigt.

Oben befinden sich jetzt die Halter für die Druckplatten des Bambu Lab P1S. Die unteren Halter sind für die A1 Mini vorgesehen. Zuvor lagen die Platten überall verteilt, standen im Weg oder waren noch originalverpackt. Teilweise wusste ich nicht einmal mehr dass ich sie überhaupt noch besitze.

Nun hat jede Druckplatte einen festen Platz. Alles ist sofort sichtbar und griffbereit. Diese einfache Umstrukturierung schützt die Platten vor Kratzern, schafft Platz und macht den gesamten Arbeitsablauf angenehmer und effizienter.*

One of the highlights of the weekend was finishing a compact but charming 3D printed stand for my original Game Boy. This console is part of my childhood and giving it a proper place brings back a lot of memories. The stand is stable, fits perfectly and provides space for up to three Game Boy cartridges.

Gone are the days when the Game Boy disappeared somewhere in a drawer. Now it stands visible and ready for use. When visitors come by they immediately recognise it from their own childhood. Many of them feel the urge to pick it up and start playing and that is exactly what they should do. It is not a display object. It is meant to be used.

*Ein besonderes Highlight des Wochenendes war der fertige kompakte 3D gedruckte Ständer für meinen originalen Game Boy. Diese Konsole ist ein Stück Kindheit und ihr einen festen Platz zu geben weckt sehr viele Erinnerungen. Der Ständer ist stabil, passt perfekt und bietet Platz für bis zu drei Game Boy Module.

Vorbei sind die Zeiten in denen der Game Boy irgendwo in einer Schublade verschwand. Jetzt steht er sichtbar und jederzeit einsatzbereit da. Wenn Besuch kommt entsteht sofort ein Wiedererkennungseffekt und bei vielen kommt direkt der Wunsch auf ihn in die Hand zu nehmen und zu spielen. Genau das sollen sie auch tun. Es ist kein Ausstellungsstück sondern ein Gerät das benutzt werden darf.*

Not every project needs to be large or complex. Regenerating silica gel organising the build plates and completing a small retro themed 3D print are modest tasks yet together they create real progress. My workspace feels tidier the materials are ready for use and the Game Boy setup adds a nostalgic accent to the room.

Nicht jedes Projekt muss groß oder komplex sein. Silica regenerieren die Druckplatten organisieren und einen kleinen Retro 3D Druck fertigstellen sind zwar einfache Aufgaben aber gemeinsam sorgen sie für echten Fortschritt. Der Arbeitsbereich wirkt aufgeräumter die Materialien sind einsatzbereit und der Game Boy Ständer setzt einen nostalgischen Akzent im Raum.
