Mastering artistic (two-point) perspective

in WORLD OF XPILAR3 hours ago

Mastering perspective doesn't have to be a guessing game! In this step-by-step structural drawing tutorial, we'll break down the fundamental principles of two-point perspective by building it from a familiar framework: a one-point frontal perspective grid, which we've already drawn in previous posts.

We will begin by constructing a tiled floor utilizing a one-point frontal perspective. This foundational exercise serves as an ideal stepping stone to clearly understand the underlying mechanics of two-point perspective. By mastering this dual-point system, you will be able to effortlessly establish precise depth and scale for any figure or object in your drawings.
Here you will be able to identify the horizon line (HL), the ground line or ground line at the bottom (EL), and a vanishing point (VP) in the center of the HL. Also drawn in red, you will see a semicircle that represents the safe visual area (no distortion).

At the center of the already drawn floor grid, draw a square following the lines as shown.
Next, draw another square in perspective by placing each corner at the midpoint of each edge of the larger square.
I speak of squares, meaning squares in perspective.

By extending the edges of that square towards the HL, we will find the two necessary vanishing points to start the drawing of a cube in perspective.

Using the diagonals method, you will find the right intersections to place each edge of the cube.
If you've followed my posts, you will know what I'm talking about.

Outline the edges to visualize the cube.

Draw other cubes anywhere, following the same drawing process, always in the "safe zone" delimited by the red semicircle.
Anyway, if you want, try drawing some cubes outside this area to observe the distortion in them.
