In today's post, I am excited to share a specialized tutorial on how to use Blender’s Grease Pencil to create intricate geometric patterns. This workflow is perfect for those interested in Islamic Art, Arabic motifs, and Sacred Geometry.

One of the most beautiful aspects of geometric art is how complex complexity can emerge from very simple shapes. By using Blender's precision tools, we can turn a simple square into a mesmerizing 16-point star pattern.

In this video, I walk you through the entire process of building a geometric masterpiece from scratch.

We focus on:

Precision Layouts:

Setting up "Empty Objects" and "Plain Axes" to maintain perfect symmetry.

Mathematical Rotation:

Using specific angles like 45° and 22.5° to create 8 and 16-point stars.

The Grease Pencil Workflow:

Moving from rough pencil helplines to clean, bold pen strokes.

Stylization:

How to alternate line depths and apply color fills to bring the geometry to life.

-----------------------------------------------

While many people use 2D vector software for these patterns, Blender’s Grease Pencil offers a unique advantage. It allows you to work in a 3D workspace, giving you the flexibility to rotate, layer, and even animate these patterns later on. Whether you are creating a mandala or a complex mosaic, the precision is unmatched.

If you find some of these steps moving quickly, I have created a series of foundational videos explaining the Grease Pencil basics. I highly recommend checking them out to get a better handle on the tools used in this tutorial.
