Hoy me gustaría traerles a otra representante del movimiento impresionista francés, a quien apenas descubrí en estos días mientras investigaba a los artistas del impresionismo que no fueran muy conocidos: Eva Gonzalès.

Hello and have a nice day, my dear community members! Today, I’m bringing you a new episode of the Artist of the Day series. Today, I’d like to introduce another representative of the French Impressionist movement—someone I only recently discovered while researching lesser-known Impressionist artists: Eva Gonzalès.

Su vida
Eva Gonzalès nació en París, Francia, el 19 de abril de 1843. Hija de una pareja de artistas acaudalados, padre escritor y madre música, creció en un ambiente que estaba en constante contacto con la cultura y el arte. A los 16 años empezó a tomar clases de dibujo con el retratista Charles Joshua Chaplin; tres años después se convirtió en alumna del renombrado pintor Édouard Manet, para quien también trabajó como modelo. Fue en el taller de Manet en donde conocería a su colega, Berthe Morisot, con quien mantendría una breve rivalidad.
En 1870 presentó su primera obra en el Salón de París, titulado El soldadito, en donde se evidenciaba la influencia de Manet. Durante la Guerra Franco-Prusiana, empezó a trabajar bajo la tutela de Edgard Degas, produciendo al menos tres obras más antes de contraer matrimonio, en 1879, con el grabador Henri Guérard.
Fallece el cinco de mayo de 1883 en París, a causa de una embolia después del nacimiento de su hijo .
Her life
Eva Gonzalès was born in April 19th, 1843, in Paris, France. Daughter of a couple of artists, her father a writer, her mother a musician, she was rised in a environment that was in constant contact with culture and arts. At age 16, she started to take drawing classes with the portraistist Charles Joshua Chaplin; three years later she became the pupil of the well-known paint Édouard Manet, for whom she worked as a model. It was in Manet's shop where she would met her colleague, Berthe Morisot, with whom she sustained a brief rivalry.
In 1870 she presented her first work in Paris Salon, entitled The Little Soldier, where Manet's influence was evident. During the Franco-Prussian War, she started to work under the wing of Edgard Degas, producing at least three more works before marrying, in 1879, with the engraver Henru Guérard.
She dies in May 5th, 1883, in Paris, due to an embolism after the birth of her son.
