🎶New Contest: Story time with songs.🎶
I'm delighted to be a participating in this contest in @writingnreviews community. I love listening to music a lot, in fact I have over 500 songs in my phone. I enjoy songs that has a story to tell. I listen to several genres of music like hip-hop, RnB, soul, afrobeats and more. As a full blooded Nigerian, I love afrobeats more, that is why I'll be writing about an afrobeats song.
The title of the song is "Ojuelegba". It was performed by Wizkid a Nigerian superstar artist. The song was released in 2014 from his 2nd studio album "Ayo". I love this song a lot because this song talks about the personal struggles of the artist, how life was very difficult for him before things turned around for the better.
In the first verse, Wizkid sings about how his music career started in Ojuelegba (an underdeveloped town in Lagos, Nigeria). He sings about moving from studio to studio in order to record tracks and roaming the streets of Ojuelegba with his CDs to sell. While in the streets, he sees people suffering and praying for blessings for a better future, which was his prayer too.
In the second verse, he asked, what has happened? Life isn't that hard, only prayers can help and God will answer. He also advises not to flaunt riches after making it in life.
In the chorus, he sings of how life is getting better for him. He thanks God for his life because the feeling he has is unexplainable.
In the third and final verse, he thanks and heaps praises on his mom because she prays for him everyday and now he is enjoying his life. Now that things are going well for him, people start complaining and talking too much, but he continues to thank and praise his mom.
This song gets to me because Wizkid's story is generally what most young Nigerian men and women wish for, a better life.
