anglo african newspaper was founded by robert campbell in 1863 and it was printed in lagos. the aim of the founder was to use the paper to support the rate of western education growth. the first edition of the paper was published on june 6, 1863.

the paper critically analyzed the political problem of the time. likeiwe iroyin, it inculcated in people the "need to know" especially the information about the happening around them. it also the happening around them.

it also trained the first set of printers and journalists. the paper had low circulation because of its editorial policy.
