ORIGINAL POEM #37: Asparagus and Night Lights

in #writing6 years ago

Its that time of year again: the time when i start to pen depressing poems to temporarily sooth the pain. Here's one of my most recent ones. Thanks for reading and let me know what you think:

#1: Asparagus and Night Lights

When the dark falls early

The dreaded thoughts return

Of sweet hearts I've sliced open

And bridges I have burned.

I only wished to touch

As physician in your temple

Forgetting that the night

More than daytime I resemble.

A curs-ed Midas daughter

whose fingers alchemize

Gleams of hope to ash and death

And darkness in your eyes.

We weeded that asparagus field, the

Stalks poking up through the earth

Like naïve man-parts and

We laughed in full color.

But I snapped some that

Weren’t mine to snap on

Accident I swear to you.

Beautiful, green and innocent were

They before my careless touch.

It’s their own faults, those lonesome

stalks were in my path; I tell you

They sacrificied themselves!

Why did you have to make

art that conjured vibrancy from

Life and filled my heart with

Love for a while, forever, for a time?

I couldn't help myself, what made

Me think i could help you?

I did nothing but what

Fate gave me for a task:

I loved you. Then I killed you.

. . . . . Killer Love . . . . .

Curled alone except shadows

And haunting truths so unkind.

As much as you suffered still it's

My heart that i stab every time.

Your expression of fear

And hurt always lingers.

Be gone, wretched heart and

These death-wielding fingers!

No pleasure is left for

The Great Queen of the Night

Who has killed all her lovers and

Has to sleep with a light.
