Cathlen's Chibera Character Story - Lûth'lain the Mage-Archer
This is my submission for the Chibera writing contest depicting an adventure of my future character - Lûth'lain - who is on a hunt to slay a giant mana possessed fox that has been terrorizing her village for weeks.
The last rays of sunlight were glimmering through the trees as Lûth'lain sat quietly on top of a branch and prepared herself for the Hunt. Lûth'lain was an elf and as most elves, she was tall and beautiful. Her red hair was tightly braided and held in place by a silver pin. She wore a simple tunic, green in color to blend in with the forest and a necklace swung on her neck. The necklace was simple yet awe-inspiring as it was an acorn from the World Tree.
She closed her eyes and started quite whispering. As her whisper became louder she started to glow white more and more. Suddenly, as she cried out the final word of the incantation out loud a surge of light flashed outward from her. She jumped down from the branch but her feet never touched the ground. She was levitating a few inches above the ground and finally, she opened her eyes. Instead of her usual golden eyes with a deep green pupil, her eyes were now glowing blue with the magic that was boiling inside her.
Gracefully she put her hand in front of her and blew into and sparkling dust flew out in all directions. She looked around and saw a trail of magic left in the air by the beast she was out to kill to make sure none of her friends or family would suffer anymore.
Quietly she drew her bow from her back and then a single arrow. Gently stroke the tip of the arrow until it started glowing with a light blue and looked like it was made from cold itself. She readied herself and started stalking her prey.
After a few hours of wandering through the forest only stopping to cast the tracking spell to make sure she is still on the right track she found herself on a beautiful glade. It was night now and the light of all three moons was shining on her. But the peaceful moment suddenly ended as the magical beast suddenly jumped on her from one of the trees. She dodged yet she could feel the magic seeping out of the fox as even its now mutated body was never built to handle such raw power.
The foxes landed and looked at her. She looked back at the fox. Their gazes met and they both knew at the moment that only one of them will come out of the glade alive. In a blink of an eye, the foxes jumped straight toward Lûth'lain and she jumped back, firing the arrow the same time. As the arrow flew the air it broke into first a hundred then thousands of small pieces and turned into a blizzard that swept the fox back. Lûth'lain pointer her hand and cried out ankweth and red light formed in her hand and flew out toward the fox. It struck the foxes legs and turned into chains. Lûth'lain stood the, patiently waiting for the perfect moment to strike with her final blow but she waited too long and the fox broke free and jumped straight at her again. This time Lûth'lain was hurt as she didn't expect the magic in the fox to be so strong to break her binding spell. The fox struck her face, leaving a trail of blood flowing down her tunic. She cried out in pain and the fox struck again, kicking her from the back and Lûth'lain flew across the meadow until a tree stopped her flight. She fell to the ground and felt that she had several ribs broken. Amat she whispered and a magical barrier shined around her. She needed time, precious time. Nestaros she cried and a mist formed inside of the barrier but her healing magic was weak and needed more time.
At the same time, the fox was watching her carefully, it saw the barrier and attacked only to be thrown away with every strike. But each strike threw it away less and less until with a final strike and thundering noise the barrier broke. But that was exactly what Lûth'lain was waiting for as she took out her secret weapon out while she was waiting.

She threw a single glowing acorn at the fox and wished that the holy relic she got from her mother as a child still possessed enough magic to work. And it did. The piece of the world tree started growing at the moment it struck the fox. First, it seemed almost peaceful. The acorn turning into seedling but in less than a second it was more than a meter long and grew straight through the foxes heart. And only a dozen seconds later a majestic true with mana flowing through its leaves veins was standing the middle of the glade and the fox was fully consumed by the child of the World Tree to fuel its growth.
Lûth'lain laid there for hours waiting for the healing spell to finish its work. The time she spent there she spent it thinking. The world is filled with dangerous beast and not all of them in animal form. And many of them much more dangerous than the mana mutated fox. Perhaps it was time for her to leave her village and find her path. And by killing all the beasts no matter whether animal, daemon or humanoid she would still be protecting her friends and family. Because the war was here always and while her village was hidden from most it could not remain hidden forever.
Nice entry
