Sorry, But I Am NOT Your Best Friend.

Trust Is Not The Issue.

I have written and published many guides, reports and How-To's since I joined Steemit in July 2016. I will go through my history, find them, copy the links and start to include those links in future posts. I will do this to spread my knowledge and in a way to support and help others... But more importantly, I will do this to reduce the amount of messages I receive on Discord.

Truth is, that I get a handful of messages daily and most of the people are asking the same questions.

How to get upvotes?
How to earn money?

With links to my previous articles, I might reduce the time I spend answering these questions and that might actually allow me to spend that time answering other questions or... It might even give me some extra free time.

This Is From Today:

I know, I'm not perfect and I do mistakes.

Hello Sir.

As you can see, this started off like most of the messages I get. Hello Sir, Dear Sir, Kind Sir and whatever. I'm Sir @hitmeasap 8 out of 10 times... And I'm not a Sir.

Anyhow, this chat quickly turned into a "please help me to earn money", just like most other chats I've had on Discord. However, as I am who I am, and I am also the benefactor of the @asapers, I just can't ignore people, so I did my part. As usual.

Judging by the response, I guess I wasn't able to please this person with some magical answer they would've wanted... But I did my part.

I Was Scared...

Seriously? Scared?

Look, I won't say anything dumb or mean to this person specifically because this might be true. But this is not the first time I've heard it. I've heard the same or similar things many times before... And it still makes me wonder.

  • Why on earth do they send me a message in case they truly are afraid?

Afraid that I would destroy their reputation and flag their posts to oblivion and take away everything they've earned... Why do they risk that by sending me messages in the first place?

The only thing I can think of is this:

They know that what they are doing is bad. They know that people hate beggars... But they continue to do this, because it somehow works.

Someone will at some point upvote them.. And that's the reason for them to take the risk.

Can We Be Friends?

discord4.png

I am friendly. You can see me as your pillar of support, as a motivator or someone that inspires you. You can see me as a teacher, a leader or a role model. See me as whatever you want, but don't expect us to be close friends... Because that won't happen.

The fact is, that even if I wanted to, it's impossible for me to be close friends with all my followers or my readers. It's impossible for me to be best friend with all the people I help or talk to. It's impossible and that's not because of me... It's because of life and how we humans are.

I see all my followers, readers and Steemians as co-workers and friends. That's for sure. But I do have some Steemians I know better than others and I consider them to be more of a friend to me than others... There are limited spots for really good friends. Just like a family. You can't have 43 moms and 64 dads.

Imagine how that birth would've looked like. People running around with an arm here and a leg there. That wouldn't work out well.

But, like I said. I do see everyone as a "friend" or a co-worker... Because we are. We are colleagues. We're creating something here. Together. All of us.

So even though I don't know your first name, your middle name or when or where you're born... I still consider myself to be friendly.

Things got weird after this.

And there you have it. I can't be your BFF... And I don't want to be your "bestest pal". I do have a life outside of Steemit and the @asapers and it might take some time for me to reply to your messages. I also have friends outside of Steemit and I have no intentions of becoming someone you share weird stories with in private chats.

Thank You For The Support!

Luckily you got the "friend" or "sir".

Most strangers approaching me are calling me "dear".

I use "sir" or "ma'am" where appropriate as a jesture of respect. The only "dear" I use is in reference to my wife of 48 years. If I preface or suffix that term with colorful metaphors please don't tell her : ) I think the unusual use of prefixes like dear here are by people whose first language is not English and sometimes the @handle is not gender specific or maybe they take it for female. Just guessing...

That happens... But it's mostly sir. :D

Could we have a combination of those? Would you prefer "Dear Sir" or "Sir Dear"?

hahahahaha you are killing me with this one!!!

The whole time reading your post, I was thinking, "What?? You actually get private messages from people??"

But then,

Things got weird after this.

hahaha I'm still laughing!! I'm sorry, I'm trying to be supportive and helpful for you, but I can't stop laughing! Where did that guy(?) think this was all heading?? Don't answer that!! Who knows? but it's something neither of us need to figure out!

Wow! That's all I've got for you. Just wow!

Haha, yeah... I don't have any better words for it either.. So wow. :D

After almost a year on Steemit, I’ve yet to use Discord.

I’ve probably saved myself a bunch of grief. 😏

Haha yeah... Well, it's not always like this. :)

lmao. So, obviously, it’s a little scary to approach a Sir. Aren’t Sirs like knights? That’s intimidating! But at the same time, how could anyone pass on the opportunity to be in a BFF kind of friendship with a Sir? You never know... Anything could happen!

Haha, that is very true. I don't mind being called a "sir" as much as random people sharing very private things with me. I mean, I just can't be BFF with everyone. :D

This exchange reminded me of an old commercial... "Pardon me..."

You were way nicer than I would be, but I'm used to those people being pervert creepers. At "can we be friends," my answer would have been "no, I don't know you."
Though I probably would have answered "how to get more views and vote" with "there are guides all over Steemit, read them."
FFS, the advice is there if people want it. They don't want it, though, they want a cheat.

Haha. Yeah, all the information is out there to find... But there are so many people who doesn't care the slightest bit to search for it. They want to be spoon-fed.

Good grief!!! ....there's your entertainment for today! Facepalm 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️

Hahaha, that last sentence made everything so awkward... :D

Seriously!! Hope school is treating you well 🤓

Noob : I have a request.
Hit: What's the request?
Noob: Can we be friends?

DeanLogic : Run for the damn hills!!!

You think it is bad online? Try running a social group were 25% of the people have social interaction issues and as the leader and being friendly to them, they immediately think you are their best friend in real life.

I can imagine the difficulties with something like that. You know, I've been online for a very long time and as a freelancer and part of many different internet marketing groups and projects, I am used to interact with a bunch of different people... But sometimes, it just feels weird. And awkward.

Haha, I don't know if I should laugh or cry... Reminded me to be selective of who I should friend.

Speaking about "I'm scared" part. I don't like receiving 'random' messages at all, most of time it means wasted time for both of us... I rather talking with people in comment sections.

Well, good luck in your steemit life, and more importantly your life outside of steemit (this made me curious what kind of life you lead.)

I included this post in my Daily Picks if you want to check it out.

I hate those comments that are like "Say something nice, then self advertise." I think, as more people use the internet daily, these comments will have to evolve. It's still a pretty scammy thing to do, though.
