Stop Asking for money. This Is Not A Charity Even Though There's Plenty Of Heart.
Fellow Steemians,
Steemit is a great community and I've witnessed many, many fantastic things during the year I've been here. However, it's time to discuss all of these "Please Help Me"-types of things a bit further.
First of all, let me share some details with you...
I wouldn't mind getting a shit-ton of money from time to time, especially now as I'm looking forward to a STEEM-CRUISE. - I need to raise a total amount of ~$3500 or so, and like I said, I wouldn't mind some donations or generous whale votes on my content until I've reached that... - However, I wouldn't beg you people to give me this money...
I don't do these things, even if I could.. - And you know what?
If I would reach out to this amazing community, and ask for help, then I'd probably do something like this:
Picture of me.
Details about what I'm raising money for.
The total amount it would cost.
Why I want help.
And extra details.
Approach this thing properly.
Steemit is a great community and tons of amazing things have happened due to people's generosity and due to good-will and that people actually cares. - Don't try to pull of a lousy scam or use dirty tricks like "I can't afford to pay my rent"-type of things to claim rewards. - Do it right and people will listen to you. - Do it wrong and you'll get flagged and no one will care.
Let me give you an example of something that I would be proud of.
Dear Steemians,
I have been a member of this amazing Community for 1 year. It's been 363 days since I signed up. During this year, I've witnessed many great things. - I've seen things I never even could have dreamed of.
Today, I stand here before you, without a proper solution to finance my STEEM-CRUISE.
It's hard for me to raise this amount in time, as it's only 2 months left before I'll go on this STEEM-CRUISE and I've done everything I can during this time. I've been working hard and I've put in tons of effort to share quality content, to get exposure and to earn the amount I need, and even though I'm struggling, I'll continue to push myself even further, to raise as much money I can.
The thing is, that I will probably be able to make about 50% of the money (or whatever you might come up with), and I would love to get some help from you guys. - If you can once again find it in your heart, to give to your fellow Steemian so I could make this happen, would be a true blessing for me.
As you can see, based on everything I've shared until today. I'm a hard working Steemian who focus to encourage, motivate and inspire minnows. Most of my content is published directly to function as help for newcomers and I see myself as a pillar of support. - I want to be this pillar of support, but even I can use some help to pull this off.
As I've already explained in the "STEEM-CRUISE" article, this entire thing would cost me about $3500 in total, and honestly speaking, I don't feel good asking for this much. - However, I see no other option and I know that this is only a fraction of money compared to other causes. - And that's why I decided to go this route. - To ask each and everyone of you, to help me out.
I truly believe that this thing would help me to bring in more users to Steemit and even if it doesn't, I'll have the best time of my life, and I would dedicate myself even more to bring quality content to Steemit if you helped me with this.
Something like that. - I don't know, I've never done this before but this is probably how I would do it, if I asked for money. - And I would also share some more insights, details and most likely a photo of me. Or a few.
What I Can't Stand...
Is the people coming to Steemit asking for money in their first post. - Are you serious?
I won't judge and I know that people have different views and issues all over the world but in all honesty... - Do you think you'll have great success with poor articles where you beg whales for their money?
- Why would anyone give something to you, if you've never done anything for anyone else?
I guess some people wouldn't care if they got help out of pity, but you can't play that card all the times.. - Steemit is not a charity event. - It's business.
You can't expect help from people without doing the hard work yourself. You need to pave the way for yourself, your causes and most likely for others to, in some sense, before you even ask for help... - And even if you did all of that, you can't expect help.
Steemit has a huge heart. People are open minded and they care about others around them. - They upvote, Resteem and donate money to others... - But don't be one of the guys trying to pull off a shitty scam to claim easy rewards. - You are better than that!
Note: This is NOT a post where I honestly try to get rewards or donations. I'm sick and tired of all the lousy "help me"-posts I've been seeing lately. - I simply used this thing as an example to add more "meat" in this post.
Please help me, I'm @apsu from Finland. I'm in urgent need.
I need a newer and bigger boat with a bigger engine. I'm trying to gather up 20 000€ to buy a nice, new boat to drive around in the sea.
Please, send me all your love and money.
Thanks mates.
I don't usually even upvote even my own posts, but now I'll vote my own comment so I can get my new boat sooner.
We need more details! What kind of boat is it? Where are the photos?
Does it matter I upvoted, have you ever seen someone you doesn't need a boat.
LOL @bigram13
We all need a boat. Even if we don't need one, we should get one in case we ever need it!
Thanks for the reply @nenad-ristic and I'll give you some details:
This is the kind of boat I'd want http://www.amtboats.fi/mallisto/br-mallit/amt-175-br-honda
This would be able to save me, my family and our love. Or something, I can't come up with anything more important than that boat!
That seems like a very small boat... Maybe a yacht would be better?
It's a bit small, I know, but it's bigger than my current one and I don't want to look all greedy. ;)
the entire drawn out lecture in one pithy joke! Bravo!
It may seem like a joke, but I actually want a new boat :(
I'm curious. You mentioned steemit is a business, then what kind of revenue model is the business? I've been unable to find the reason why people want to swap Steem for fiat. Everybody here seems to want to cash out from Steemit.
Anyone care to enlighten me?
Yeah. It's a business. People don't just give away thousands of dollars with the use of a magic wand or something like that. People swap Steem for fiat as they can use their money by doing that. They can't pay their rent or travel with Steem or SBD (at least not yet), so they convert it. (BTC/USD)
And that's not entirely true. Most people, (if you look at the established steemians) they save their earnings and build up even more. - Even though they might power down or withdraw some of their earnings to cover their living expenses.
That being said, I'm not the right person to ask for the exact revenue model, so I'll let others answer that for you.
Honestly, the reason why everyone is powering up now is to one day power down, right? At the critical point where everyone starts to power down, then what happens?
From my perspective, a majority of people are looking to power up until a point where they are able to just upvote and trade SBD for BTC. If everyone is doing the same thing, wouldn't that just remove value from Steemit?
There has to be a better way to make Steemit a platform where user organically connect and blog while having financial reward be a secondary priority.
100% vote and resteem.
Totally agreed . May be its their earning strategy. All those who begs for money are mostly new members. They should understand that these type of strategy arent accepted by community.
I see people thinking of Steemit as a money generating machine :P
I agree with you, those that want to ask for money need to go over to the crowdfunding thread that I hear is starting on Steemit.
Keep the good post coming!
They could have asked first for followings or upvotes in the comments to warm up a bit at least before the big question! XD
haha agree, its absolute cringe
This post received a 1.6% upvote from @randowhale thanks to @hitmeasap! For more information, click here!
But my kids want a dog and the humane society wants to charge $125-$200 for a dog. I really was looking forward to asking Steemians to help pay for the adoption fee. :)
