The REAL Reason Why I Joined Steemit – Monthversary on Steemit!

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

Happy Monday my dear friends!

Today is my 30th day on Steemit, as it’s been such an amazing first month. I’ve learnt SO much using this platform, met many great talented people and had so much fun. This is by far the best online community I’ve ever been. I hope to grow alongside Steemit and with all the amazing people I’ve met. Thank you so much for appreciating and commenting on my posts. I’m extremely thankful for all the comments I’ve been getting.

To celebrate my Monthversaryon Steemit, I decided to write a post about the real reason why I joined... Get your piece of cake and celebrate!

I know what you may (or may not) be thinking – “Oh she joined for the money, of course.” Well, to be honest, that’s a motivation, but it’s not the primary reason, nor the secondary… Money is just a good differentiator when comparing Steemit to the other blog platforms out there.

Explore My Hobbies

I always liked to write, natively in Portuguese. When I was younger, I used to write poems and texts just for the fun of doing it. I would keep them for myself and maybe show them to my parents, who would proudly read it.

As I grew older a lot of it faded away. I still liked writing but adulthood got me way too busy to write just for fun. When you’re too focused on your career, sometimes your other passions get neglected. Although I can’t say I have everything I want out of my career, I can say I’m in a comfortable position to where I can dedicate some free time to explore my hobbies and share them with the world.
Isn’t Steemit the perfect platform for doing so?

Inspire Other People

I have a lot of good days, but I have a lot of bad days too. I’m very self aware and not very confident. When I’m feeling down, I like to watch movies, TV shows and YouTube videos that make me feel better. I get motivation from people that have been through the same things that I have.

So what if I could do the same? What if I could write about my feelings, and maybe someone will relate to it and feel better? That would be awesome. Maybe I could inspire other people, or maybe just cheer them up. If my posts can make someone happy, even if it’s only 1 person, I’m the happiest person.

I was mesmerized when @vesnapv read my post about Saudade and wrote her own take on it, in this post. I read somewhere that @maverickinvictus might wrote about it too, so definitely looking forward to that! THIS is what I love about this community.

Train My Written English

As I mentioned before, my native language is Portuguese. I realized Steemit, at the moment, is mostly English written, though there’re posts in other languages. I work for an International company so I speak English on a daily basis.

I thought writing posts would help me to develop my written English as well as narrative construction. I have a few ideas for fiction stories, which I’m working on and really want to put it out there!

Engage and Meet New People

In such a short time on the platform, I’ve already met so many great people. I consider myself an introvert and not the most sociable person. The internet is a magical place where we can find minds that think alike and enjoy chatting, without the anxiety of talking to someone in person. It sounds awkward, I know!

There are also so many talented people that I’d never be able to meet if it wasn’t for this community, so extra points for it.

Be creative. Enjoy The Ride!

I’ve always liked to be creative and express feelings in texts, stories or poems. Steemit is a platform where I can put my thoughts out there, get feedback, inspire/get inspiration and even get some $. What else could I ask for? J

What is/are the real reason(s) you joined Steemit? Would love to know!

I certainly appreciate your reasons for joining Steemit. Congratulations on your 1 month anniversary here. This is the 2nd time this week that someone has featured you in the #payitforward contest. Obviously, you are doing some things right to get people's attention. @freedomshift featured this post by. Wish you all the best.

It's a great month anniversary :) I can't stop smiling over all the support and kindness people have been expressing on my posts. I'm deeply grateful for the mentions!!
Thank you so much. Wish all the best too!!

Because I was invited by @bloghound to joint haha!

I joined for the money. I have to be honest. When I realized it's not that great earnings, I changed my perspective. I have been joining contests from the start. I have tons of photos to share. That's the motivating factor to keep me going. Also, it gives me new thoughts on old pictures that I have. It also brought back my desire to take photos again. Although I have to rely on cameras that does not take photos the way I wanted to because it is limited technically. I work with what I have now and share it here.

I've also mentioned to someone that it is sort of a therapy. When my brother had an accident, I turned to steemit to take away the stress. It takes my mind off the worries. It's an escape from reality and I get to read inspiring blogs. When I published the story the support is overflowing. Many showed their concern which is heartwarming.

I also like reading about the stories of others and how we are all the same. We may differ in culture, we all suffer the same. We just cope differently.

When I share my photos, it is a sense of accomplishment. Whatever I earn is the bonus.

Cheers to more months of steeming!

I'm glad @bloghound invited you, you're such a special person!! I love how you're always willing to help, encourage and give feedback to people. You're awesome.

It's true, the money is a big thing and it's probably what gets our attention at first. I love your photos! I love the idea of "giving new thoughts on old pictures". When we post older photos to Steemit, we give them life again.

I'm so sorry for your brother's accident. Hope you're doing ok? Yes, the support is also something else from this platform. Everyone is so willing to help, support and appreciate you. It's overwhelming in a great way, it warms my heart!

So true. There's always something to relate in other people's stories. I also like the fact that we have so many different cultures joining together in this platform.

Thank you so much for your inspiring and amazing comment @leeart . You got my first 100% vote valuing $0.01 woop woop ! its not much but it was $0.00 until now haha xx

Cheers, my friend! For months and months to come :)

I appreciate you as well for your feedbacks and interaction :) It keeps this community a great socializing platform.

Yes, my brother is doing okay although he still needs constant monitoring. He's not yet 100% back to normal and I don't know if he'll ever be but he's getting better as the day goes by.

Me and freedomshift entered you in a contest by @thedarkhorse. You deserve the much needed attention.

Thanks for your vote! That's sweet of you.

hi @leeart, I just had to comment and say your reply is so touching. I agree that is an escape from the craziness called life and a creative outlet :) Just like you, I can share my photography (which was kept on my phone, never to be seen again!) and connect with others.

Enjoy the rest of your day

That's okay. That's one of the best things here in steemit. We can always interact to others and share our ideas and thoughts. Please feel free to do so :)

It seems we are cut from the same cloth as teh very things that you described here as motivations to feelings is like you are describing me.

So what if I could do the same? What if I could write about my feelings, and maybe someone will relate to it and feel better? That would be awesome. Maybe I could inspire other people, or maybe just cheer them up. If my posts can make someone happy, even if it’s only 1 person, I’m the happiest person.

I love that paragraph of you are so aware of what you can bring into this platform.

People like us have a place in this blockchain to be the heart in the center.

I am still composing that special post that you inspired

We definitely think alike!!

I also related to some of the things you wrote in your Curie story post :) I'm glad you liked that paragraph, it's probably my favourite bit too..

I'm looking forward to that post!!! :)))

I am always amazed at how people who aren't native Engllish speakers manage to master the written word. I know a girl from Mexico whose speech and accent give her away, but when she emails or messages, she's flawless.

I don't know how you are when you speak, but if it's anything like how you write, congratulations. I know how difficult it is to go from English to another language (Spanish), let alone from another language to English, where there's more exceptions to rules than hard and fast ones. That's what happens when you have a language, like English, that is more or less heavily influenced by many others.

Sounds like you had a very good first month on Steemit. Sounds like you have a good attitude going forward. Now, it's all about stringing good months together.

Onward and upward. :)

Thank you so much @glenalbrethsen ! I think I suck at pronunciation/ my accent is not pretty but I know I'm very critical of myself, so who knows :)

I didn't know much of English until I moved to Portsmouth, in the UK, to an University course exchange program. I've been improving it since then. I've also lived and worked in London for 1 year, about 3 years ago. These experiences helped my development with the language and I currently work remotely for a US company, so I use it in a daily basis.

Thank you for kind words! Hopefully the next months will be as good or better than this first one.

Cheers! :)

Happy Monthversary, @julimattos. I am also that so-called introvert person who isn't a sociable person. I envy those people who can talk a lot. Well, I was lured on here because of the magic word 'MONEY'. But the earning on Steemit isn't big and it's not the main reason I stay. I am still on this platform because people here are awesome. I was never that person who would comment on strangers' post on other social media platforms but Steemit changed me. I like commenting on other people blogs now. Haha

Thank you dear ! Yeah, me too. At the same time we introvert people know better how to be in peace on our own and be reflexive :) Haha yeah the word 'money' is pretty magic! I also realised the earning on Steemit is not big but the community is what makes us stay.

Aw I'm glad you're interacting with people on Steemit, otherwise I wouldn't have the change to interact with you!! xx

I'm pretty talkative on here. Hahaha! This is the only platform that I interact so much. I like it here because people really like to interact so I often get replies when I comment others. It makes me sad when people don't reply to my message/comment but of course, we can't please others to reply us back. hahaha

Congrats on hitting 30 days @julimattos :) We love what you're doing! Keep Steemin'!

What is/are the real reason(s) you joined Steemit? Would love to know!

You have done well and in just 30 days you reached a reputation score of 46.
Congratulations!
I am here to:

  • encourage
  • inspire
  • help
  • collaborate

The overall purpose is to be able to speak freely and to reach out to freedom seeking people here without trolls or spying/censorship as in other platforms.

Thank you so much!!! :)) I love your reasons to be on Steemit. "Help" and "Inspire" are the ones I can most relate to :) I'm glad people that stay on the platform have beautiful reasons to do so. Yes, I totally agree that the freedom is also something great about Steemit. :)

You have a higher reputation score than mine although you have accomplished this in much less time than I have been here. So, I can not really help you w.r.t. your reputation score.
However, you could reach out and gained a wider audience by commenting on other people's posts / blogs or comments therein.
I have suggestions on my post and they might also help you. I have commented regarding voting, SP, securities, and alerts, etc.
You can see where I have commented here:
https://steemd.com/@freedomshift

and look for the comments for @deborahtmz which might be applicable to you as well.
I can not include you in a contest that was designed to help newbies because one of the rules is to only feature a newbie with lower reputation score and that precluded my featuring you in my entry.
Look for my entry in the contest in my blog as well as the resteemed contest for the week that just ended.

Thank you for your tips! I will check the information you provided. :))

Agree with all you wrote! I too made several new acquaintances and found many great content creators thus far (its only been 10 days!). I also feel that I am back in a groove of expression and creativity again through this site. Your english is fantastic, I'll keep reading if you keep writing :)

OOh so welcome to Steemit, 10 days laterr! :)) This platform is perfect to let your creativity and expression run free. It's different than any other social network or platform.

Thank you so much for appreciating!!! :)))

You go girl great to see you doing what you aspire from a young age and being equally successful at it.

Aww thank you! Your comment makes me happy :))

I like to read, my wife said there was a lot to read on steemit, and there is. So now I not only read, I vote, and I comment, and I try to help where I can to keep people on steemit. After all I came for the reading so I want the content providers to keep providing. I guess I would be an Audience member on steemit.

There's for sure a lot to read on Steemit, so that's perfect :) The good thing I like about content creators in this platform is that they're so talented and creative. So a lot of good things to read and see around here. That's awesome, thank you for reading my content! Really appreciate. :)
