I've read all this and agree with you up to a point, but I think rules are made to be broken, and this is why the great writers are great, because they break all the rules from a place of knowing. When I was learning how to play the saxophone long time ago I was told to learn all the rules and after I'd learnt them to break them. Yeah, but that isn't the purpose of this post. The point of this post for who people who want to learn how to write better sentences and are unsure of where to start.
If someone asked you how to play the saxophone, would you jump in with "Fuck scales and chords! Rules are meant to be broken?" Probably not...
