SEC-S30W2: Legends of My Country: (Lady Koi Koi: One of Nigeria’s Mythical and Supernatural Story)

Storytelling has been an essential part of African culture and passing this stories down to generations is also essential because they carry our culture, also they have good moral and didactic lessons.
Growing up one of my favourite moments is listening to stories, to folklores and mythical stories from my parents and elderly siblings, especially during the evening hours, this stories are usually told outside, in the compound, kids sit on the ground, listening to the elder , who take a big chair in the middle of all the kids to narrate the tales.

Nigeria is a country full of diverse cultures, traditions and beliefs, these cultures also have their different folklores and mythical stories, which I find really interesting and for this purpose of this prompt I will like to share a mythical and supernatural story that I was told as a child who attended a boarding school while growing up.
This is popular myth in Nigeria and the name of this story is the story of Lady Koi Koi.
This myth is an interesting one,with several versions, it's a brief story and it usually leave us scared at the end, also it teaches a very important lesson too.
The legendary story of Lady Koi Koi is one of the supernatural myths, that scared me as a child, back in the hostel.

She was called Lady Koi Koi because she was fond of wearing pointed heels and when she walks , the sound of her step echoes loud and everyone knows she is the one coming.
The story of Lady Koi Koi is about a beautiful teacher in a boarding school, a very nice and decent teacher, who never hurts anyone, but she was attacked and killed by some persons in the school premises at night, her body was found the next morning and she was moruned deeply.

But her ghost was restless, tasty for vengeance and wanted revenge at all cost, so her ghost never left the school premises after her death.
The students say at night they keep hearing the sound of her heels walking round the school premises, she walks at night and it frightens the students, her ghost resides in the school premises because she was killed there.

Some versions noted that she finally got her vengeance , but her ghost remained in the school, walking from classes to hostels on her red heels , some students claimed to have seen her, some claim to have heard the echoes of her heels and found her footprints during the day within the premises.
Some say she could be seen through a mirror at midnight.

It's believed that lady koi koi lives in boarding schools and walks all night to punish or scare students who are mischievous, so students should avoid night movement because of lady koi koi.
Also, the story of her vengeance teaches us that our sins never goes unpunished and vengeance is real.

Lady Koi Koi is a supernatural myth, that every Nigerian knows, every student knows her tale, it lives in their daily gossips and gist.
It's a story that makes every child scared and make them well behaved and disciplined too.
it's a powerful tale that keeps passing from generations, some say it is a fiction and some believe it's non fictional.
