SEC-S30W5: Spooky Bedtime Storie. The cry of an orphan
Who will bear this burden with me? Where will I lay my shoulders when I'm not strong? These were some of the rhetorical questions that were coming from Chisom. She lost her parents in an accident on their way to her matriculation. It was an unfortunate situation whereby something that was supposed to be the happiest day for Chisom turned out to be a sorrowful day.That moment passed, and her parents were buried, but her education was something she kept questioning God on how she could continue, hence her parents are no more.
Her uncle volunteered to train her untill she finished her higher education. She was consoled with the promise that her uncle made. Chisom started living with them; in fact, they took her like their own child without anyone knowing she was just a cousin to Mr. Ben. Chisom graduated with first class, and Mr. Ben was proud of her.
Unfortunately, there was no white-collar job for Chisom. She started selling some female wear online and was making little money. Two years later her uncle's children returned from abroad, where they schooled; they were now three females in the house. Mr. Ben's wife started discriminating against her daughter from Chisom, knowing fully well that she is her husband's cousin. Since Chisom has nowhere to go, she endured the hate from her uncle's wife.As God may have it, one of Chisom's online customers started loving and buying expensive stuff for her, but she kept rejecting it because of her uncle's wife.
At a point the online guy showed interest in marrying Chisom. But she rejected the marriage offer and introduced her uncle's children to him. When Chisom's uncle's daughter saw the guy's picture, she fell in love and asked Chisom to convince the guy to settle down with her.The guy and the new girl (Chioma's uncle's daughter) started dating, but the relationship was not growing well. The guy approached Chisom again and asked her for the third time if she could give him some time to treat her just the way he loves her. Again, Chisom encouraged her to marry the uncle's daughter. When the uncle's daughter brought the guy home and demanded to see Chisom, they lied that Chisom was HIV positive and wouldn't want to come out to greet any visitor. The guy was shocked and immediately detected why Chisom was ignoring her request.When the guy left, Chisom's uncle's wife collected her phone, deleted the guy's number, and seized the phone from her.
When the husband came back from travel, she encouraged him to send Chisom to another state; the husband thought it was a nice idea from the wife, not knowing she had a hidden agenda.Chisom's uncle rented a house in another state and packed Chisom's belongings to her new home. When the guy couldn't reach out to Chisom, he disconnected the relationship with Chisom's uncle's daughter, and he moved back to his base.
One Sunday , he was strolling, he saw Chisom and ran to call her attention; they all hugged and exchanged phone numbers.Chisom told him what happened, and the guy promised to travel outside the country with Chisom so that she can further her education.
Chisom called the uncle and his wife to inform them about her traveling; they doubted her because she did not have the connection or the money to travel out. The papers came out, Chisom and the guy traveled.
They later married. While the uncle's daughter joined drug dealers and was jailed.
Moral lesson. Everyone deserves love. Being an orphan is not a yardstick to be sidelined or maltreated. We should always show kindness irrespective of the person.
