It’s been two years since my mother passed on; two years of sad mornings and quiet nights and a weight pressing constantly on my chest. Tina exclaimed in disbelief as she anticipated what lay ahead for her. The little ceramic Birds my mother had always arranged on the windowsill, and how the rain fell so hard that it drummed against the roof like a thousand tiny fists, reminding me of how alone I have become, is now my feeling. Tina kept thinking aimlessly, reflecting on memories her mother left behind.
Every morning Tina would find herself staring Sternly at the photo of her dearest mother on their walls, those photos brought back memories of her, the way she talked, the advice she gave holding her hands, the laughter, the goodnight kisses and the wake up kisses on the forehead Tina just couldn’t stop crying and screaming wishing she had spent more time with her before her demise.
Memories of her mother kept coming, especially for the fact that it was the exact month she departed, the feelings felt anew, still scorching and unbelievable. Every morning, Tina wakes up in the sitting room, sits face down on the sofa, tears running down her cheeks, unable to comprehend what her life has become. Every sound, every scent and every touch reminded Tina of her mother. She kept asking herself how she’d survive in the world without her beloved mother; she would say There is none like mama.
Two weeks on, the memories kept on coming in waves devastating and overwhelming she was left with nothing but the broken memories of her mother, Tina wish she could heal, however she planned to return to base so, she made preparation first, she cleaned her mother’s room and the surroundings while at it she kept singing her mother’s favorite song this made her cry more, her uncle, aunties and friend had left after the funerial. Tina wasn’t close to her stepfather, so the house was so empty and lonesome without {EKA USEN} as she fondly called her mother. After putting the house and surroundings together, Tina thought I was right to ask some questions about her mother’s properties since she had no siblings her step father never hesitate to shown her, therefore first thing the next day He took Tina to her mother’s cassava farm while at the site she kept weeping because everything the mother left reminded her of her mother Tina harvested the cassava, made gari and gave her step-father some of the gari.
In two weeks, Tina is set to travel back to the city, but she still has sad memories. Nevertheless, amidst the sad memories were the heals, her mother’s voice kept on with her ‘’we shall see again, be strong, and do your best’’ so Tina took alongside her mother’s pictures, some of her rapper and shoes and even gave some to her aunties, focusing on the future Tina said, ‘’I will make mother proud’’ her step father told her that for her to heal completely, she should remember her mother’s loving words thus Tina left the village with faith.
