Any Time It’s Perfect to Make Resolutions

Making Resolutions?

At the moment of publishing this article, it’s already 2019 for one week, you might or might not already have resolutions for the following year by now. But, regardless of that, here are my thoughts on this resolutions epidemic.

Every time a new year begins people are full of hope because they think that their lives are going to improve tremendously. Because everybody is making new wishes for the year to come, you, and I are making them as well.

But, the reason why most new year resolutions are failing is that people are not taking a real commitment when they are setting up these goals. Just because everybody is doing it, it might seem like the rational thing to do for the regular folks, only to give up on everything a week or two later.

Fuck that!

My question is, why would you wait for the year to change, for some numbers on a clock to change so you can turn your life around? Of course, a one year period is a perfect timeline to track your performance but, why do you have to wait for 1st of January to start?

If you’re reading this on 8th of January, why not make resolutions for the period within 8th of January 2019 to 8th of January 2020? Maybe it seems a bit absurd because, we as people love round numbers so 1st of January, or any round and nice-looking number, would seem like the perfect date for that but, it’s not.

Many people might see the end of December, and the beginning of January as a magic period and the best time to set up goals. It’s not magic, at all. Moreover, if you look at it statistically, since most people fail on their resolutions, December and January is statistically the absolute worst period to make resolutions.

The real problem occurs when people want to make a change on any other date but, they wait for the next week, the next month, the next year to come around to take action. I say, fuck that, start doing it now!

I have goals that I want to accomplish, resolutions that I set up for the next year but, I started taking action upon them weeks ago. Instead of waiting, I’m already forming a new behavior and rewiring my brain.

Another reason why many people are failing is the fact that it’s hard to pursue a plan that you set up from before for a full year. If you look at where you are at right now, and at where you want to get, and all the steps you have to take, you will undoubtedly get discouraged.

You need to break down your goals into smaller time sections. Set up one primary goal in regards to something that you really want to change, improve, on a time frame of two weeks, one month, something smaller but doable. And, start taking action because that is the most important thing.

You need a solid plan, if you want to lose some fat, make some money, and have better relationships, you can’t do all of them at once, you need to take them one by one. You need momentum, start with one thing, and as soon as you gain some wins, add something else, and so on.

Don’t wait for the freaking calendar to flip, for a magic date to come, start planning, and more importantly, start acting as soon as possible. Regardless of what you’re doing, the most important thing is to take action.

I hope you’re going to be able to accomplish everything that you want in the next year; it’s just a matter of commitment and of how much you want it. Take what’s yours and have a great fucking year!

People make resolutions at the beginning of the year because this year is supposed to be magical, different (read much better) than the last. You can't set a resolution on the 8th of January because what kind of magic number is that? You're already in the new year and if you admit to yourself that the period between 1-7 January hasn't been that great, then you're basically admitting this year isn't magical either. That maybe there's no magic at all, no man behind the curtain and it's all really just about you.
And no one wants that.
Happy new year! :)

Way to go Debbie Downer! :P

I started a new years resolution today, at about 8pm - see, magical number!

I never said resolutions were impossible :P You can achieve pretty much anything if you're determined to do it. I just said the hour/day doesn't really enter into it. I hope you weren't betting on that 8 PM to do the work for ya, man. Otherwise, you're probably good.

Yeah I know, I'm just being a shit :)

8pm was just the time I decided to get off my arse and do what I'd been thinking about all afternoon!

Such cynicism. You took it too far, son!
But, yeah! True dat.

Please stop assuming my gender :))

I just found this morning a paper with the resolutions from last year... hahahI was a bit depressed a little bit... still somehow I believe in the new cycle, the wheel of the year... and though I may doomed to "fail" at many, I like that feeling. I know it depends on my will and I'm currently not "doing" right a few things hahah XD oh my, sigh!
I try my best though but it's not a self-punishing mandatory list, but more of little goals.

I know what you mean, I like that feeling of starting something new, fresh, as well. Just take it slow, start with what's most important for you, and then reach the others as well. That's what I'm trying to do, hopefully, it works.

All the best! :D

Yes, no self punishment, so far I have been a bit less active around here (not gone just less active online) because I sm trying to finish some pending things, paperworks and things that also scared me and in the middle of a massive tidying haul. I sm already failing at "not fearing" but everyday i write down the little advance do I do not focus on what I have not done but in what I have

Having a plan and following it through a tool is the best way to achieve your goals.
As you have said it is difficult to achieve them all at once. we have to assign priorities, and also make realistic plans. That's the best way to achieve some goals. It need to be followed up.

Greetings !

Priorities are, indeed, very important. I found that breaking the goals in small, daily steps works the best.

Cheers. :)

I 85% agree with this. I listened to a meditation lately where a woman talked about setting intentions instead of resolutions. In other words: try something and don't feel too bad about not sticking to it. Resolutions mainly make people feel bad when they don't keep them. It's all about the intention ( the date you start with it is secondary ).

I see what you mean. I think that what matters the most is how committed you are to actually achieving it. As long as you got that right, the approach is not as important. Huh, many factors at play, damn!

My goal for 2019 is to keep making goals for 2019 and never stop improving and meeting those goals.

If I can't or change directions than to reorganize my goals and keep going. This is something that killed me at the end of 2018 because I kept telling myself well that can wait until 2019.

Yes! To keep on going, without stopping, regardless of the challenge is a great approach. It's not always easy to apply it but, it's a great way to look at things. :)

I prefer to make habits rather than resolutions.

My resolutions usually involve trying to kick some of those!

wao man, nobody could have said it better, I totally agree with you brotha! It is now or never.

You know I also think is funny when people also say they will start changes or new goals on... Monday! then Monday comes, something happens and they go like: "ok, next Monday for sure" LOL

Anyways, sending you good vibes for your resolutions as well whenever you decide them to start bro! Take care.
