Greetings friends!

The recent Corona virus outbreak has become a great disaster for humans. It has killed over 300 thousand people and because of the turmoil from this pandemic, world economy is seeing its worst time which is similar to the 'The Great Depression' of 1929.

Condition of India's economy was already worse much before the corona outbreak. Now, it is at the brink of collapsing due to lock down. Millions of people have lost their jobs and occupations. Thousands of migrant laborers, daily wage earners, jobless workers and other people are forced to embark journey on foot towards their native places. They wish to reach to their villages in a hope that there they'd be helped by their relatives and, kith and kin who would feed them or at least allow them to die peacefully in their ancestral places. Thousands of laborers are forced to walk and cover distances more than 1500 kilometres on foot! Dozens of people are going home crammed in trucks as if they are goods. For this perilous journey, they also have to pay exorbitant amount to the truck drivers and bus operators. Many have died because of fatigue, dehydration, lack of nutrition and also road accidents are killing many. Also, police is torturing those hapless people in some places. Finally, the government allowed trains and government buses to accommodate those people but, this is too late and too little.

Under the pressure of this drastic situation, Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi announced a relief package of 20 lakh crore INR (about 226 billion USD), which amounts to around 10 percent of India’s total gross domestic product. In his address to the nation he said it was larger than expected and would help all classes, from farmers and migrant laborers to big businesses.

He further urged Indians to become more economically self reliant and advocated 'use of local products'. He didn't provided much detail of the relief package but, told that Finance Minister Mrs. Nirmala Seetharaman would provide detail of the package.

He said, “All the experts are telling us that corona will be part of our lives for a long period,”. His remark suggests that the strict lock down policy may be eased in the next phase of the corona lock down which he termed as lock down 4.0. It also infer that the government is not able to help people so it is telling them to be self reliant. Many businesses were already opened after the his earlier addressing to the nation. Now, people are desperate to go their homes and are ready to pay any price for it. It is now up to the government how it deals with the this situation.

On the other side, opposition parties are criticizing the package. Top opposition party Congress is terming it as "creative accounting" and "empty package wrapped in speeches". Many people are also doubting government's claim as the treasury of the government is already empty. So, according to them it is just a face saving exercise by the government. They are saying that it is not a package but, an announcement of providing loans to industries.

It is hard to tell what will be the outcome of this package but, Government must save those people who are starving and being killed on roads. As a welfare nation, India cannot afford to loose so many lives in such an inhuman way."

Hello @akdx thanks for the post.

Condition of India's economy was already worse much before the corona outbreak. Now, it is at the brink of collapsing due to lock down.

This is not limited to India alone, the world's economy is shaky, and presidents of nations are worried. The IMF said the recession might hit hard in the second half of the year if a solution isn't found for this pandemic. People are losing their jobs, i have been unable to go out for months now as even friend i called told me business isn't going fine. People are losing jobs worldwide, people are dying worldwide, companies are closing worldwide, the world is in shambles and we are just leaving on the edge trying to find solution. The weather has been hot recently and i personally fear for a draught (personal fear).

Mr. Narendra Modi announced a relief package of 20 lakh crore INR (about 226 billion USD), which amounts to around 10 percent of India’s total gross domestic product. In his address to the nation he said it was larger than expected and would help all classes, from farmers and migrant laborers to big businesses.

This will only be worth it if the money gets to the masses but if doesn't get to the masses due to corrupt leaders then the masses will still have to pay for it. A country like Saudi Arabia gave its citizens relief funds as well as food but just some hours back, the government announces an increase in VAT to 15% so as to cover for losses from the coronavirus. The thing is everyone lost one thing or the other, but the governments duty is to care about the economy of the country immediately the pandemic is over.

It is hard to tell what will be the outcome of this package but, Government must save those people who are starving and being killed on roads. As a welfare nation, India cannot afford to loose so many lives in such an inhuman way."

This touched me as an individual and i hope the government so something about it but does the government see any of this?

Thank you @gbenga for your valuable comment. This is a sad story of every hapless poor in the world. Governments are announcing as much as it can but, most of the time that relief package is only meant for the corporate. Situation is pathetic. What else I can say.

Sad to read this... after all of these things, it is still the poorest that are severely affected. Praying for God to intervene. Looking forward that these people will soon recover.

it is still the poorest that are severely affected

I doubt my friend that government's announcement would change the things dramatically because most of the announcements are on papers only and whatever will be given by the government, will go to the leaders and officers first.

i hope this will helpful for poor people of india. i am helping those labourers who are passing through my city by giving them food and footwear. they are walking almost thousands km to reach their house.

I hope so! Thank you.

My country has eased lockdown already as the leaders have been unable to help citizens through the period of crises, citizens now have to look for a way to work and avoid getting in contact with the virus, we have been placed in a very tight condition but we can survive and scale through.

Life has become very difficult to the virus but, it is the lock down which is killing more people. Best wishes for you and your country.

Dear @akdx

It's hard not to agree that "recent Corona virus outbreak has become a great disaster for humans". And it blows my mind to notice that more and more people out there seem to believe that it's hoax. Just another lie. It's so shocking, to see how many people do not understand that we're witnessing the biggest event of our life-time.

Many have died because of fatigue, dehydration, lack of nutrition and also road accidents are killing many.

India surely has been hit hard. Mostly because of actions of your authorities. Their response has been terrible so far.

I wonder how will those newly printed money be distributed. Seriously I doubt that any of it will ever reach low-class workers. Distribution of freshly printed money is distaster. Pretty much everywhere. And in developed countries it's probably the worst.

Yours, Piotr

This is the main problem I think.
