RE: Amid the grave condition of the migrant workers and families, government of India announced relief package worth 226 billion USD.
Hello @akdx thanks for the post.
Condition of India's economy was already worse much before the corona outbreak. Now, it is at the brink of collapsing due to lock down.
This is not limited to India alone, the world's economy is shaky, and presidents of nations are worried. The IMF said the recession might hit hard in the second half of the year if a solution isn't found for this pandemic. People are losing their jobs, i have been unable to go out for months now as even friend i called told me business isn't going fine. People are losing jobs worldwide, people are dying worldwide, companies are closing worldwide, the world is in shambles and we are just leaving on the edge trying to find solution. The weather has been hot recently and i personally fear for a draught (personal fear).
Mr. Narendra Modi announced a relief package of 20 lakh crore INR (about 226 billion USD), which amounts to around 10 percent of India’s total gross domestic product. In his address to the nation he said it was larger than expected and would help all classes, from farmers and migrant laborers to big businesses.
This will only be worth it if the money gets to the masses but if doesn't get to the masses due to corrupt leaders then the masses will still have to pay for it. A country like Saudi Arabia gave its citizens relief funds as well as food but just some hours back, the government announces an increase in VAT to 15% so as to cover for losses from the coronavirus. The thing is everyone lost one thing or the other, but the governments duty is to care about the economy of the country immediately the pandemic is over.
It is hard to tell what will be the outcome of this package but, Government must save those people who are starving and being killed on roads. As a welfare nation, India cannot afford to loose so many lives in such an inhuman way."
This touched me as an individual and i hope the government so something about it but does the government see any of this?
Thank you @gbenga for your valuable comment. This is a sad story of every hapless poor in the world. Governments are announcing as much as it can but, most of the time that relief package is only meant for the corporate. Situation is pathetic. What else I can say.
Whichever post I visit - I see your amazing comment @gbenga
Seriously, love your engagement.
This is really great.
