Green Smoothie Of The Day: Anti-Inflammatory, Brain-Boosting Tropical Turmeric Morning Bliss
A good morning makes a good day. Turmeric is definitely the superstar in this smoothie. This bright yellow spice acts as a powerful antioxidant, cleanser, and anti-inflammatory agent. Turmeric comes from an ancient root that has been used in Indian and Chinese medicine for centuries.
Turmeric is low in calories and contains a good amount of manganese, iron, vitamin B6, dietary fiber, and potassium. Curcumin, its main active ingredient is a very strong antioxidant and helps fight inflammation in various ways at the molecular level.
According to many studies, chronic inflammation in the body plays a key role in the development and progression of various diseases such as heart disease, cancer, metabolic syndrome, Alzheimer’s and other degenerative conditions.
Curcumin not only fights inflammation it acts as a powerful antioxidant too. Turmeric neutralizing free-radicals in the body but also boosts the activity of your body’s own antioxidant enzymes. A double win. Furthermore, curcumin boosts levels of the brain hormone BDNF (Brain-derived neurotrophic factor). BDNF is a key protein in brain plasticity and is particularly important for the survival of dopaminergic neurons. This increases the growth of new neurons and fights various degenerative processes in the brain.

Thanks @abutaleb365!
Looking forward to trying this out!
Turmeric keeps coming up on Steemit for me lately. Must be a good sign to get into it (also just started giving turmeric to my pup to help her with inflammation and candida).
It's such a powerful spice. Don't forget to add some black pepper to increase its bioavailability. At least that's necessary for humans. Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment.
Turmeric is the best, we love the taste and the health benefits. I hate that it colours my hands orange but it is worth it :)
You can wash it off with coconut oil or any other oil. Turmeric is so good for your skin too.
Cool, thanks for the tip. We never buy oil while traveling though. Next time I eat some greasy noodles in the street, I'll stick my hand in them lol :p
Another winning recipe! Turmeric is so good, I make sure to have some every day! never thought to put it in a fruity kale smoothie, interested to taste the flavor profile of this recipe. This looks like a super healthful and delicious flavor explosion in the mouth <3 Anti-inflamitory goodness
Thanks @veganbeast! And totally agree! Turmeric is so good for us and everybody should eat it every day combined with lots of fresh fruits and vegs of course. Going plant-based most of the time has helped my hubby to cure/manage his MS. He hasn't taken any medication for over 3 years now and no flare-ups. Yeah for plant-based foods ;) Have a great day ;)
