Friday Fishing Stories: Shark at the Beach
Yesterday, I took a day off of work and took the family to the beach. We went to Newport Beach to hang out in the sand and water, but I also took the opportunity to try to catch a fish or two.
The day ended up being nicer than expected, as the coast is generally cooler than the areas inland, and we ended up hitting the low 70s in terms of temperature. Newport Beach has some of the more decent waves in the Southern California area, which can make surf fishing tougher, and yesterday was no exception.
I ended up fishing from about 10:15 till noon, and I chose a big surf fishing rod and reel setup with a lot of weight, with the plan to soak some shrimp and hope for something big, while I played in the sand with the kids - multitasking at its finest!
In addition to fighting the big waves, there was also quite a bit of seaweed floating around in the water from all the churn (we call the seaweed "salad" here). So it was tough to keep the shrimp in the necessary area where the fish would be crusing through.
I ended up only catching one small Leopard Shark for the day, but sill had a great time trying. I spent as much time resetting and pulling seaweed off my setup than actually fishing, but still enjoyable for sure. Here are a few pictures:
I will share some other highlights from the beach day in a different post, but wanted to focus on the fishing aspect in this one!
Thank you for stopping by!
Brian
What a great way to spend the day! Great weather, fishing, sand, sun. What more could we ask for? Thanks for sharing with us at #myhuntingfishing! I have never caught a shark before, that would be quite the experience even if it's a small one. :)
Dear friend, it is wonderful to take a seaside stroll with the family, and it is nice to catch the family, it creates an atmosphere of joy and pleasure and enjoy every moment with them, I see to Jacob that he is very happy to catch a small shark, I wish you and your family happiness always, all the best greetings to you my friend dear @brian.rrr
How cool is it to be able to say that you caught a shark!!! I have caught a lot of fish but have never had the pleasure of catching a shark. There are some fishing tours that will take people out shark fishing. You have the opportunity to catch good size sharks for the small cost of $2000 per trip. A pretty good deal of you have 10 people in your group. I’ve always thought it would be so much fun.
i agree with you sir,,,,,,,,,
Wow, Its quite obvious that you had a good time fishing and what an interesting catch you've got.
When I was little, I and my Dad used to go out to fish often during weekends. Its been quite a while i've gone fishing and i'm sure my fishing skills are quite rusty now.
better!! It's good to take a day and dedicate it to the family ... In the photos they look happy. regards!!
really very excellent post my dear friend..again giving a best fishing story in your blog.just mindblowing.. . I have seen numerous television programs on shark fishing and to be honest it is fantastic how they do it, as well as samples in your photos, they throw in hook with the bait to the sea, and they bury it in a firm place to wait for the fish to bite the hook to start collecting it. It seems that it was a good day to fish, the sky is very blue and the sun is radiant, I also like to see Jacop happy in that picture, you can see that every Friday when he can go fishing with you, I think it will be a great fisherman like you are.absolutely very high thought quality history sharing with us.. thanks to sharing for your good post.. @brian.rrr.. my dear friend.. thanks to sharing for your good post.. very well done..
Hello friend fishing on Friday and in family with the best climate that makes it good for children to be outdoors
The photos are beautiful in Venezuela we have lots of beach areas
Obviously can't see a whole lot of the beach, but I'm surprised you didn't have more people around on a nice day. Guess it would have to be pretty crowded not to find some stretch of empty sand and water, though, and it was probably early enough in the day, too.
Nice catch. I don't do a lot of fishing, but generally, I'm able to locate all the snags, so dealing with seaweed (salad) would be par for the course for me. :)
Best thing, spending time with your family. Thanks for sharing the moment.
Wow!!! the small Leopard Shark looks awesome. Nice to see you and your cute baby to fishing. Really the beach is awesome and I hope you enjoy the fishing time.
Great and interesting fishing experience.... The beach is looking so pretty... Enjoy your time @brian.rrr
