Dahi vada : An Indian authentic snack (Vegan)
Dahi vada is a very popular snack all over India and in Indian subcontinent. It is basically fried and soaked lentil flour dumplings served with thick Dahi(yoghurt).
Traditionally it is prepared in dairy curd but here I prepared in vegan peanut curd. You can find peanut curd recipe here 👉 Peanut Curd Recipe
Dahi vada is served with tamarind and mint sauce. Red chilli powder, salt and roasted cumin powder sprinkled over it.
Ingredients
Black lentil split(skin removed) or called Urad dal 3/4 cup
Moong dal 1/3 cup
Vegetable oil for frying
Cashew nuts 1/4 cup
Raisins 1/4 cup
Fresh ginger 1/2 inch
Salt to taste
Water as required.
Procedure
- Soak both lentils in hot water for a few hours.
- Grind it to make a smooth paste, add little water if required.
- Add broken cashew, raisins Grated ginger and salt.
- Whisk it in one direction till it becomes fluffy.
- Heat oil in a heavy bottom pan and fry small-medium sized dumpling. Fry until it turns golden brown.
- Transfer immediately in lukewarm water.
- Soak these dumplings for about an hour in the water.
- To prepare curd add powdered sugar and salt in it and mix it well to smooth texture.
- Squeeze dumplings gently and keep aside
- Now submerge dumplings into curd
It is ready to serve
- Transfer dumplings(vadas) into plate
- Garnish with tamarind and mint sauce,
- Sprinkle salt, roasted cumin powder and red chilli powder over it.
