Good News, Bad News [Life][Gardening]
Sometimes when I look up at the clouds in the sky, I am just thankful to be alive and able to view it.
Today I didn't really want to make a post. Most of the content I have to share paints more of an unsatisfactory picture than I prefer to share. Who am I to be the judge? Let the artist be free... The world needs expression.
First, the Bad News
The other day I awoke to find one of my plants looked a bit sickly.
This is cilantro. It takes a long time to sprout normally. This is the only little pot of cilantro I have growing so far.
Some of the leaves were turning brown, and I clipped them off to increase the airflow and light exposure, and because I didn't want the brown to spread if it is a fungus. Still, it is so delicate I wasn't sure if it was going to recover.
Remember that song they play on The Price Is Right? No, not the happy one everyone expects to hear when they win. The really sour one they play when somebody completely, utterly fails miserably, even though they thought they would win, and they don't win anything because the guess they made on the price of a car was way off
Keep this sound in you mind when you look at the next photo coming up.
In other news,
A package arrived today from steemian @welshstacker. It was the expected prize from his recent contest. A real 1 oz silver bar.
That's not funny.
Okay looking back, it is sort of funny to me now. Trusting underpaid delivery persons to flawlessly handle valuable items every day, and never take a tip for themselves.
Actually that's not funny. Stealing is wrong kids! Always!
I opened this envelop from the top, to read the included letter.
The thief opened it from the corner. Mail thieves could care less about about a letter.
After talking to @welshstacker about it, he said I should post the results here anyway as an example of what you might expect from the mail service. Though, his words were much more colorful than mine. Seriously, always take precautions when sending valuable items in the mail. You never know if a dirty rotten thief might be handling the mail before it arrives to the recipient. Metal coins are especially easy to steal. The shape and heaviness of it can be felt through the paper, and they easily set off metal detectors.
I know @welshstacker said he plans to follow up with the mail service, but honestly I don't expect anything, and I'm not really disappointed anymore. As a seeker of Truth, I'm more interested in the facts, and investigating what might have happened, who did it, where, why, and what will happen. However, I do fancy the idea of a tough-as-nails Welshman poppin' knuckles in the direction of a mailman with a crooked nose that needs some adjustments. I think I would get a kick reading a creative story or comic like that, even if it didn't happen, as a replacement for the missing prize.
Any takers?
And now, the Good News
Drumroll please...
Those darn seeds finally sprouted. The magic beans finally did it.
These are actually ornamental #tobacco sprouts, #nicotiana x sanderae. These seeds are supposed to make a variety of colored flowers, with a desirable perfume aroma. It is February now, so if this is a slow grower, I should be in good shape for adding it to the garden in summer. These seeds took about 8 days to sprout.
Have you ever seen leaves so tiny before? They could probably fit on the back of a pin needle.
Even the #cilantro is looking better. I can spot the second set of true leaves coming out.
Yes, this is the same cilantro from the photo I posted at the top of this page. Three days later it is looking much improved.
It seems to prefer the window light rather than being so close to the artificial light bulbs all day long. Ever since it looked like it had the sick brown leaves, I have been moving it around. In the evening and morning, it goes on the warm grow shelf so it catches a boost from the light bulbs in the morning when the timer turns on the lights, and then I move it to the window during the day time to get some filtered sunlight.
See, brighter days are always ahead my friends.
Hope you enjoyed this post. A bit random, but so is life.
I love #cilantro, it is a poplar ingredient in Spanish kitchens. Hope they get nice an healthy. and congrats on wining the contest.. sucks what the mail guy did..smh
Nice
That Cilantro seems as if it is lacking sunlight they do prefer it cooler but also full sun https://bonnieplants.com/growing/growing-cilantro/ nice one bud. Cheer$;)
i don't like cilantro. I tastes like soap to me, but i know its very healthy so sometimes I eat it anyway ;). My goji plant does grow faster when i put it under a light bulb, but maybe it's is not that healthy for the plant to do it all day.
Skowzz, you are not alone. Although I personally love cilantro, according to an the Huffington Post, "4-14% of the population" find it has a "soapy aftertaste" (you inspired my curiosity which led me to this article;0). Evidently, specific genes that pick up the smell of aldehyde chemicals (found in soap and cilantro) are partly responsible for the flavor association. Thanks for inspiring my further understanding of this topic. I once knew someone who like you, finds cilantro to taste like soap. At the time I had never heard of this before. I simply thought it was a matter of preference and sort of forgot until this post. I now understand that was not the case...thanks again!

Interesting! I'm definitely one of those 4-14%. It's a chemical soapy aftertaste for me indeed. It's like I'm eating something poisonous. Parsley is no problem for me though.
Poisonous...eek I can see why you wouldn't like something that tastes like that.
Many people do not like cilantro. I swear foods taste different to different people. Is that even possible? I know miracle fruit can make sour lemons taste sweet. To me, cilantro tastes like a zestier version of parlsley. Whatever you are doing seems to be working for the goji.
Whoever stole your silver is a dirt bag. I'm sorry that happened to you. Great to see the Cilantro plant make a comeback!
I am glad that your seeds are starting to sprout! I have to get on the ball and start mine soon. I am sorry to hear that someone stole your 1 oz bar and, as unlikely as it may be, I hope they can get to the bottom of who took it.
Yes, that's what I hope too. I don't like it when someone gets away with a crime, because it means they are still out there and motivated to do it again.
