RE: Good News, Bad News [Life][Gardening]
i don't like cilantro. I tastes like soap to me, but i know its very healthy so sometimes I eat it anyway ;). My goji plant does grow faster when i put it under a light bulb, but maybe it's is not that healthy for the plant to do it all day.
Skowzz, you are not alone. Although I personally love cilantro, according to an the Huffington Post, "4-14% of the population" find it has a "soapy aftertaste" (you inspired my curiosity which led me to this article;0). Evidently, specific genes that pick up the smell of aldehyde chemicals (found in soap and cilantro) are partly responsible for the flavor association. Thanks for inspiring my further understanding of this topic. I once knew someone who like you, finds cilantro to taste like soap. At the time I had never heard of this before. I simply thought it was a matter of preference and sort of forgot until this post. I now understand that was not the case...thanks again!

Interesting! I'm definitely one of those 4-14%. It's a chemical soapy aftertaste for me indeed. It's like I'm eating something poisonous. Parsley is no problem for me though.
Poisonous...eek I can see why you wouldn't like something that tastes like that.
Many people do not like cilantro. I swear foods taste different to different people. Is that even possible? I know miracle fruit can make sour lemons taste sweet. To me, cilantro tastes like a zestier version of parlsley. Whatever you are doing seems to be working for the goji.
