Daybook December 9

The best career advice may be the simplest:
Be humble, be daring, keep learning—especially from your learners—
and leave every place better than you found it.

Advice from a nurse mentor in 1975:
To advance your nursing career,

don’t think you are indispensable.
Don’t be afraid to do something daring.
Don’t be afraid to learn—
from those you teach with
and especially from your learners.

And remember this:
leave each place better than you found it.
Every organization existed long before you arrived
and will remain long after you leave.

Your role is not to be the center,
but to be a contributor
to something that lasts longer than you.

One Line for Nurses and Nursing Students Today:
Grow boldly, learn humbly, and leave places better than you found them.
