Fostering (Adopting) A Steemian Gardener

The other day I had mentioned in a post that I would be starting to foster a gardener as part of my Spreading the Stewards Of Gondor love.

Here is the original post introducing the initiative as well as some nominations made in the comments. There is still time to nominate yourself or another gardener. This will be an on-going list as each week I will be fostering a new gardener until the list is complete; which I don't want to have happen, so please make sure to keep the nominations going!

Fostering? How?

Just like my Embracing A Steemian that I do on Sunday, I will be working with, offering support (whether with post ideas, formatting questions, or whatever the gardener needs advice on). The fostered gardener will also receive 100% UPvotes from me throughout the week.

There will be some requirements of the nominee.

Qualifications for being FOSTERED:

* MUST post EVERY day for the week (Tuesday through the following Monday)- consistency is key

  • While dedication and consistency are important- it has been brought to my attention that there are MANY members who are dedicated, but with spotty (rural) internet connections, band-width issues and various other legitimate concerns, posting every day may become an issue. So I have taken this into consideration for the "fostering" initiative challenge.
  • One post you make a day will be UPvoted at 100% by me. **NOTE: Consideration that if you cannot post daily, I will still UPvote SEVEN quality posts. So if you post two quality posts one day but none the next two days, you will still get the guaranteed 100% UPvotes.
  • MUST have less than 500SP
  • MUST have a minimum reputation of 35
  • YOU MUST accept this challenge in my weekly Monday post if I have called upon you
  • Topics MUST BE gardening, herbs, flowers, planting, greenhouse, etc (you get the picture here)
  • You MUST have established the gardening topic(s) within your page already; where I can see the gardening posts are what you're writing about.
  • You MUST BE available in Discord for some one-on-one tutoring or Q&A time.

Fostering a Gardener runs from Tuesday through the following Monday EVERY week.

The first Fostered Gardener is @borrowedearth

PLEASE make sure TO ACCEPT this initiative and that you are available on Discord for one-on-one chats!

Once you have accepted this challenge and made a quality post, you will see this in the comment section indicating that I have fulfilled my end of the fostering.

You have been chosen to be my Fostered Gardener Of The Week Thanks to @fulltimegeek's delegation as a Steward of Gondor @goldendawne will be here for you to assist, guide and help you GROW- just like your garden- on steemit. Please accept this 100% Upvote for this post. You will receive a 100% Upvote for every post (up to seven per week) you make for the seven days CONGRATULATIONS on being a committed steemian!

THIRD Golden Ambassador Announced

Who is The First Golden Ambassador?

@karenfoster

Karen's page and profile says, "working towards a healthier, self sustaining, happier life. urban farming, raising chickens, bee keeping, and cannabis/hemp are passions of mine..."
When you're new to a platform like steemit, it can tend to be overwhelming. While I don't know much about cryptocurrency, I am definitely someone who can help others with formatting, interaction, advancement on the platform and how to conduct yourself.

One of the biggest questions I get is, “how do you make money?”
Well, it's a two-fold answer.

Today I asked @davemccoy if I could share some tips on how to be successful on steemit with some do's and don't's of what I have learned over the last six plus months.

Do's Of Steemit

Make sure to be visible- whether you are posting daily, commenting as much as you can and never leaving a comment in your post “unattended”- always answer people
Join a Discord community- whether one specifically for new steemians or in a group of like-minded people
Follow or join a curation group (ie. Qurator, thesteemengine)
Treat you posts, comments and page as a business. Conduct yourself professionally.
ALWAYS spell check your post before submitting. Spelling errors can stop a curator member from sharing your post- you may miss out on some fabulous exposure.
Participate in some good tags, challenges and contests- ie. gratefulvibes, walkwithme, freewrite, marketfriday; just to name a few popular ones

Don't's Of Steemit

DO NOT participate in the follow me/follow you mentality. This is high frowned upon.
NEVER post your own link or post in another's post/comments unless they have asked for it or give permission.
Don't Upvote EVERY post or comment. DO not treat Upvotes as likes as on other social media websites
STOP looking at your wallet balance- this will drive you absolutely crazy
DO not be a drive-by comment person; such as leaving comments like”good post”, “nice post”, etc. Leave a thoughtful and thought-filled comment that requires the person to answer you back perhaps. This is a way of networking on steemit.

These are the basic lessons I have learned in my time on steemit and they have ALL helped me progress to where I am today.

I'm happy you see the value of having @goldendawne here to help us all. Feel free to ask her anything, that's what she is here for to help us all improve and grow!!!

Wow! Dawne sounds absolutely amazing. She had me wishing I knew something about gardening, but so far the only thing I know about that is that spiders chill there which is what has kept me away so far 😂 ok, ok, ONE question 🤷🏾‍♀️ This will be hard since “Clueless” is my name. Hmmmm ok so what are the factors that contribute to ones post being seen? For example, I’m new here from YouTube and things like watchtime, likes, comments, supporting others, and tags are probably the most important things for growing on Youtube. But I’m not sure what those things are here (other than upvotes and comments). For example, my family and friends have been reading my posts but won’t sign up for Steemit 🙄. So do outside viewers still help us at all??
... so I know that was a packed full question. Oh yes Dawne has a new follower in me ♥️ Already following Dave.

so what are the factors that contribute to ones post being seen

You say you were on YT before coming to steemit? WHat brought you to steemit? Did you have problems with YT revenues, policies? Were you trying to broaden your audience?

I know MANY steemians who were on YT and have left due to changes in that sites' policies and issues. They even wrote about it- and none to kindly either. Maybe you can share your story too.

You do DIY's, recipes, etc- I LOVE THOSE too! So for your tags.... always use diy, crafts, recipes, frugal or thriftyfinds- things along that nature.

And btw, now following you. Would love to see your posts.

In your cranberry Bliss bars- I checked the post here. Maybe add some more text. Some people get irritated with a great title or headline of a post then feel deflated when they click on the link/post and it's only a video or link. Maybe add text about why you make this, why you/you family like it, how you first discovered the recipe. Adding text substance could help. Also for that post you could use healthy-home which is a curating member for healthy life, recipes, etc

Thank you soooo much for this feedback. I actually do well on The YT considering I earn and have had some sponsorships. Most importantly I’ve made a ton of friends there. But I’m not naive either, I can see that the platform is changing and many are jumping ship so I would be foolish not to see if there is something better out there with a better community. So awesome your tips on tags. I actually LOVE thrifting and have a lot of content regarding it, but I wasn’t sure if it’s a good fit for Steemit. My cranberry bliss bars did have a note attached that explained I originally posted it will all of the written details and more pictures etc but my DTube video would not work. I tried 1 million times to upload it. Finally when I figured out what was wrong, I wasnt able to edit my first cranberry bliss bar post which had promised a DTube video. So I just put up the video in the second post explaining that if anyone wants to see the recipe and written instructions they can go to the original. Classic rookie mistake 😂 .
Thanks for the encouragement

I actually LOVE thrifting and have a lot of content regarding it, but I wasn’t sure if it’s a good fit for Steemit

You never know until you try; there is a new tag called needleworkmonday (I believe) and it has taken off! Imagine if you did a thriftythursday... that would be GREAT!

I would definitely encourage you to search crafts, diy and even thrifty or frugal and see who else is making posts. Start following them and commenting on their posts.

Will do! Thanks again

Wow. Can't believe a week has passed since the last "Dear Dawne". I don't have a question this week but just wanted to say I wish a was a gardener and could take part in @goldendawne 's foster a gardener intitiative. What a fabulous opportunity! I love it! 💙

Keep an eye out I may be adding a new mentoring initiative soon. I am constantly posting about helping others.

Thanks! Will do. 😍

Hi @goldendawne thank you so much for your time. My question would be on motivation for us newbies. May I ask for tips when we're feeling down about how we're doing in Steemit? How to keep going and continue writing despite the challenges? Thank you so much! :)

In the beginning I was floundering, It happens to everyone I believe.
What really got me motivated was in the homesteading and gardening Discord group.

  • The members were doing this and that - it made me realize, I could be trying some of those things too.
  • With my newly discovered loves of DIY and making my own homemade beauty products, etc I would search online and find recipes, then tweak them to be my own and make a post. By doing these all throughout the week, I just a few weeks I started a weekly Kitchen Happenings post. Now every Wednesday I take 3 or 4 different items I've made and post about them. here is last week's post
  • I tend to push myself to learn new skills, experiment and such- this really gets me motivated too
  • When I found myself at a standstill or down, I spent that energy being mad or upset, discouraged and started commenting as much as I could. I know there is a site-wide band-width issue right now, as I have seen a few Discord groups reporting it so commenting at the moment may be difficult.
  • We all have our phones handy.. so make sure to snap some pics everywhere. There is a tag called marketfriday and people will post their shopping excursions every week. Plus this makes you think outside the box and look for unusual or unique things and stores.

Thank you so much for your very comprehensive answer to my question @goldendawne :) You have provided me with plenty of tips to think about.

I will comment and engage as much when I could not post. Actually I have several pending travel posts but it's the most difficult post for me, ironically. I love to travel but I'm still learning how to travel blog and recall the events that happened.

I saw your post too. You have a lucky family and dog too because you always prepare something healthy and good for them. I'm into health stuff too but I can't prepare most of my own food because we don't have enough space and kitchen equipment where I rent near work (shared space to save on rent in the city). But I also research about those and recently tried a ready made kefir. I bet it's much better if I prepare it like you do. :)

I know there has been a site-wide bandwidth issue this week so what people can do that are not able to post or comment here is maybe head to Discord groups and connect with other members. This could be a nice way to get more visibility and make connections.

Hi, ill take this as an opportunity to express and to ask, any strategies on engaging many people on your post, it seems newbies can only get few views aside on arts and talented people. Sometimes good post are buried down to the bottom due to lack of engagement. Is it the tags? topics? I want to learn more. :) i hope this will be noticed :)

It's true that some good, quality posts by newbies can get buried. There are so many steemians working on here.

  • Tags are VERY important ( I will make this my contribution post next week for Dave) but in the mean time make sure to tag properly. If you are writing a post about how to make an omelette- tag the post with food, recipe, howto and maybe foodchallenge and foodphotography
  • Getting people to reply and carry on a conversation can be difficult in the beginning. I suggest leaving some open-ended questions for the people to reply to. And always answer comments whether on your own post or if you had commented to someone else and they replied to you- carry on a conversation. This shows the stemians that you are serious about the platform.

Thanks for this. ill try to end my post with a question to be answered to create engagement to me and the readers ! thanks for having my comment answered it really mean a thing to me :)
