Trump Reopen Model Predicts Up to 1.8 MILLION Deaths

--A federal government model suggests that reopening states too early could lead to as many as 1.8 million deaths

Why are Republicans so obsessed with "restarting" the economy?

Sort:

It was based on old model data:

According to the Times, the document–an internal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) model–shows that lifting mitigation measures “after just 30 days will lead to a dramatic infection spike this summer and death tolls that would rival doing nothing.”

But the Times story omits the fact that the modeling that HHS and DHS used here is not from April 9–but actually from March 31, when models were notoriously incorrect because of a lack of actual data based in reality about the spread of the disease.

Whether the prior modeling was correct or incorrect the fact was always the inability to handle it whether it was three hundred thousand deaths or sixty thousand deaths. That's what the lock downs pretty much account for, a time out to build up medical facilities and equipment enough to handle the influx of patients into hospitals. Think of it as a war time scenario where troops go into retreat until reinforcements arrive.

We learned from other countries what would have happened if we just went the course and done nothing or been to late to react, we'd been way more overwhelmed than what you seen in NY and other large cities as this would have spread across the country like wild fire. We've been able to contain or slow its spread dramatically. That's why it's crucial at this point until we know what track this virus will take during the summer months to gradually start re-opening the economy.

We are at war with a silent enemy, we either arm ourselves with what we need to fight the enemy and take care of the fallen or we let the enemy destroy us economically. But yeah, it has to be a carefully crafted slow roll out since technically we are this enemies ammunition. Pretty ironic huh?
