A Life in Balance: A Day of Quiet Reflection

in WORLD OF XPILAR3 years ago

Today, I was pretty much "useless."

Admittedly, I say that somewhat tongue-in-cheek as I hear my father's voice inside my head, going back to my childhood and youth: "Make yourself useful" and "If you can lean, you can CLEAN!" were among some of his favorite things to say.

So today I was pretty much useless because I spent much of the day in quiet reflection.

Being self-employed, it's not something I do very often... it seems like there is always something that needs to be done. Today, I just decided it could wait till tomorrow. Or another day.

Aside from reflecting on the 20th anniversary of 9/11, I found myself thinking about the way our world seems to speed up a little bit more, every year. It's a world in which taking a day to "do nothing" is increasingly perceived as idling.

I used to call myself a "slacker," simply because I have always lacked the "ambition gene" that seems to drive so many people in this world. The whole success game and having big ambitions is just not very important to me! As long as I can pay my bills, buy food and cat litter, and occasionally take a small trip somewhere... I am pretty content.

I think we simply have to decide what is important to us.

Ironically, I am willing to work very hard at the weird things I do, just so I don't have to sell my soul and work at a real job, for some soulless organization.

In an "ideal world," I'll be able to keep blogging here for another 10 years, by which time my SP balance will be high enough that my daily writing and curation rewards might be close to 50 Steem... which, along with my very small pension.. would be enough to scrape by without having to continue working till my death.

Of course, this isn't an "ideal world," but it's nice to have a dream or two to keep you motivated!

And with that thought, I'm going to call it a day.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great remainder of your weekend!

How about YOU? How was YOUR day? Do you ever take a day to just be "still?" Do leave a comment — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!
