Nagyi Konyhája, Granny's Kitchen - Sopron, Hungary

Coming home from Vienna we made a stop in Sopron, Hungary to eat and to meet some friends. We wanted traditional Hungarian food and were very happy to see this place called Nagyi Konyhája, which means Granny's Kitchen. You can imagine, no explanation needed as granny's kitchen can only serve traditional food and we were right.

The place is at the second floor of the Sopron Plaza, the perfect place to eat if you're shopping.

They are serving traditional Hungarian food at a very reasonable price and there's plenty to choose from. If you're not familiar with Hungarian cuisine, let me tell you that soup is very popular and delicious as well.

This time I went for a chicken ragout soup with was heavenly good, exactly how I like it. For the main course I chose chicken paprikás (made of chicken breast) with potato and fresh tomato salad. When you choose a tomato salad, be prepared to get half ripen tomatoes as not many care, some just buy whatever they get from the supermarket but not here. As you can see, these tomatoes are red and real. It was the best choice, it was exactly what I wanted.

You can take the food with you as they are packing it if you like and can also serve it there. You can choose a small serving which is what you see on the photo and big serving. Believe me, the small id plenty, you don't need the big one unless you are really hungry and can eat more than you should. I'm not a huge fan of plastic plates and cutlery, or paper cups, I'd like decent porcelain and stainless steal cutlery but in this case the quality made up for the inconvenience. There was no time to waste and we wanted good food, so I can make an exception in cases like this.

I can truly recommend you the place if you want original, traditional Hungarian food in Sopron.
