The Unexpected Guest
I saw this interesting colored bug in the garden and I though it worth to take a photography, although I'm not a fan of photographing bugs, flies and other sliding, climbing, flying creatures. I prefer nicer subjects.
As I was zooming in I saw that the leaf has some serious holes in it and then I saw the holes under the bug as well. That's when I realized the bug is eating the leaf and that's causing the holes.
After I uploaded the photos on my computer I saw the ant as well. I've never photographed an ant before. This ant looks huge but in fact it isn't, it's just the zoom in that makes it big.
This guy was having dinner on the hazelnut leaf, or should I say having the hazelnut leaf as dinner?
I asked him to leave and he left. And now look at the leaf.
Good thing he was alone but imagine hundreds or thousand of them eating leaves to survive, what damage can they cause.

Japanese beetles! I have seen plants covered with them. They are so destructive. The farmers at my CSA Farm go out early in the morning with a pail full of soapy water and knock them off the basil plants in order to try to keep the leaves of the plants free from the awful holes that the beetles make. They are such beautiful little bugs, though. Great photos!
Thank God we only have a few. They could destroy everything.
I think they reproduce as the season goes on. Keep a close eye on them.
Many thanks, I really appreciate it.
