Frozen Arepas - 10 February 2026

Some time ago I wrote about my attempts at preparing some frozen tequeños I bought at a supermarket. I also bought a bag of arepas that time; I think they were around £4 pounds at the time (or 80+ Steem) :

I wonder whether this is a well-known brand.

As you can see in the bag above there were 5 ready-made arepas that I just needed to either fry or put in the oven. I opted for the oven method because I thought it was faster and cleaner.

It was a very straightforward process, but I just couldn’t think what to have on mine !

While I was spreading some butter and my friend cut me a bit of her cheese for me to try, I couldn’t resist taking a photo of the face that appeared on it :

My arepa didn’t look very impressed !

I ended up adding some slices of cucumber on mine as you can see in the first photo to make it refreshing and crunchy. I was actually surprised that after 10 minutes in the oven the ‘dough’ was still soft enough to fold in half.

Anyway I was just wondering what you have on your arepas. Do you mainly put cheese and then melt the cheese using the arepa as a pizza base ? Do you have arepas instead of bread ?

I still have another box of frozen tequeños, but this time I’ll just fry them, as @marito74 suggested, in a bit of oil to see if it works for me.

Thank you for reading !

Yum, delicious arepas, always looking for the creative side, ha ha ha. Arepas can have many fillings, from cheese to meat and more. I hope you try them. They're not the same as the ones I would make for you here in Margarita, and you'll enjoy them here on the beach, but I'm glad you're trying them.

My husband likes them crispy, I don't, but talking about arepas has a long history, my friend, it would require many conversations and arepas. Oh, my friend, how I would love for you to visit Margarita Island 🏖️ 😎

Fried tequeños, also very tasty when roasted in the oven, with a cup of coffee, have a Venezuelan charm.

Thank you for all that inspiration @marito74 : food, travel and a good chat !

Hello! Arepas are delicious, and it's great that you're trying new foods, but I don't know if it's the angle of the photo, but they look very thin😥😥. I think the best option is to buy corn flour and try making your own arepas. It's more fun, and believe me, they'll be much better😌. You should fill the arepa well with butter and cheese or your favorite filling. I recommend the reina pepiada😋

Arepas are more like hamburgers than pizza bases!!!!!!, but you can fill them with cheese and pepperoni if you want

Thanks for the comment @sammy1109 ! I did think the arepas I bought looked a bit thin in comparison to the ones here on Steemit 😁

Yup, it's better if you make them, I hope to see the tequeños😋😋😋

I don't know the brand since it's Colombian, and besides, we rarely eat frozen arepas; we make them directly with cornmeal.

What I can say is that they look quite thin compared to what we're used to in most of Venezuela.

We usually open them and fill them with whatever we want, whether it's protein, combinations of protein and fresh or cooked vegetables, or even plain.

Next time, you could grill them in a pan; they might puff up a bit, and then you can fill them.

Here some ways we prepare and eat arepas in Venezuela, but there are other ways:
