Selective Color Fun — Monochrome (ish) Monday (original photos)

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Hello, colleagues!

It's been a busy week in Mankato, but I did get out and enjoy the beautiful weather a little. After about six months of winter, one cannot simply pass up a walk on a beautiful day like the ones we've been having this week!

My original goal for these photos was to post them purely in black and white for "Monochrome Monday." However, the first one just had to be selective color and t he rest followed suit!

Subliminal Messaging

Every once in awhile, you can line things up like this. When I saw it, I laughed. The guy walking down the sidewalk from the other direction looked at me very oddly, but then he didn't see things frim my perspective...

The Semester's Almost Over!

This is a sign I've posted in the past, but I took it from a different angle and used selective color. The sign needed to make an appearance, as the semester is almost over! Only one more project to go! I finished a video project last night, after having thought it was finished earlier, only to find out that I hadn't done it right. Dyslexia is a real barrier to carefully reading instructions!

Change of Address?

The backhoe almost appears to be relocating the house in the background. If only it hadn't been parked on a hill, I could have gotten a slightly lower perspective to bolster the effect!

Now, it's off to class, planning my Spanish 102 lesson, class, homework, dinner, homework, more homework...

Never messed with selective color, but it looks like a lot of fun. Do you do it in camera, or in photo edit? My camera has a feature, but don't think it will do this much editing. Which sort of answers my question, I guess.

It does add a real snap to the idea you are putting out. I love it. The house and backhoe is really fun too. I can fully relate, "Mom, why is that man lying in the road like that with his camera?" "Move along quickly Timmy, move along!"

Good luck in finishing up in school. Kind of gives me a stomach ache thinking about it ( : I think your stop sign image said it all. Classic.

Thanks!

Selective color isn't something I do very often. Actually, this is probably about the third time I've done it. My camera is pretty old (Canon 7D original), so it doesn't have many features. These were pretty easy to do in Lightroom, though. I just de-saturated every other color.

Ha, well... At least nobody called the cops on me this time! I was taking a photo of a huge monument near here and the local volleyball team called the cops. Apparently, they just assumed I wanted photos of them. Let me think, huge, cool statue of a German guy with a sword or a bunch of sweaty volleyball players... The police were apologetic and made the guy that parked in front of my tripod move.

Tomorrow's the last project, and then the hard part is finished!

I love this! I was going to do yellow in my monochrome photos today but went with a soft cream instead. I really enjoy these edits.

Thanks! I don't usually do selective color, but the one in front of the church just needed it. The sign needed to be just that much more prominent!

Loved the color contrast in these shots, fotosdenada:)

Oh wow, I love looking at your photos. I always seem to learn something! Too fun that we all seem to be there with you counting the days until your school is over, lol.

Thanks! I know a few fellow students on here, and we've all come down to the crunch at the end. After tomorrow's hour-long class, I'll be mostly done.

6 months of winter? My god, glad to hear that it's finally getting warmer there. Selectively color could be fun, and you've done a great job editing your shots :)

Six months is an exaggeration, but not by much. It started snowing early this year, in early November and went almost through the entire month of April. The meteorologists are predicting a cooler than average spring and early summer, which is alright by me. I don't mind the heat, but temperatures in the 20-25 ºC range are even better.

I'm not usually a fan of selective color, but it made for some nice emphasis.

Oh man, this doesn't make me sad that I didn't get more Spanish education... Majoring in it in college was enough for me. I even worked toward my masters (in education) while living in Mexico (and doing group work in Spanish), but that was just so I could get an ID to get onto a campus. :) Homework homework homework doesn't sound fun. Ha. Cool pics though. Que bueno (said with a Texas accent).

Thanks! I had a lot of fun with these ones.

Fortunately, my projects will be done tomorrow. Then I have to create a final exam for my students, give them oral proficiency tests, grade all of that, and try to find a summer job... It'll be fun!
