ASPARTAME IS A NEUROTOXIN

in #health8 years ago (edited)

In the past 30 years, Aspartame has risen to the top spot of the artificial sweetener market. Its success is largely due to the fact that it is far less expensive than other sweeteners, and has become a multi-million dollar industry for companies in the market.

Although it is marketed as a safe low-cal alternative to sugar, its FDA approval has come at the protest of a number of alarming studies. (The FDA has a history of prioritizing big business over public safety but anyhoo...)

Original reports submitted to the FDA left out at least 50 peer reviewed safety studies including those conducted on animals who developed seizures, loss of cognitive ability, and other inflammatory diseases after the consumption of aspartame. An appeal to revisit the studies was denied.

Aspartame is made up of three toxic chemicals – aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and methanol.

Aspartic acid produces 'excitotoxins' which in high doses stimulate brain cells to death

Phenylalanine disrupts the production of serotonin (the happy hormone)

Methanol is a poison that effects the central nervous system

In humans, the most commonly reported neurological symptoms of aspartame include:

  • headaches
  • seizures
  • depression
  • dizziness

Some studies have also indicated links between aspartame and birth defects, ADHD, Parkinsons, and cancer.

Aspartame is commonly found in:

  • diet sodas
  • sugar-free condiments
  • sugar-free yogurts
  • chewing gum
  • jams & jellies
  • sugar-free cookies

What to do about it?

Read labels prior to purchasing sugar-free products.
Also be wary of labels sporting acesulfame K - a mixture of aspartame and sucralose.

Ditch the processed foods and switch to healthy sweeteners. Two of the best include raw honey and stevia.

I miss the days when chewing gum was full of yummi sugar. All the bullshit marketing of sugar making people fat has transformed this pleasurable polymer into a toxic chew. Sure, one tiny dose of sugar in the gum will make me obese! Now they're all switched to aspartame. Too bad for them, I quit chewing gum 10 years ago.

totally agree, aspartame is a lot worse for the body than sugar
