We do see dots of light in a night sky, are all these lights we see from a night sky a star? Some say yes and some do say no, I would love to share my view on this. The moon doesn't have its own light, it reflects the light it receives from the sun, this moon orbits around the earth. A satelite also orbit round the earth and there's a reflection of light to the earth, which astronomers gets confused thinking it's a star when they view with their telescope.

My entry topic for this week's choices is SATELITE, You made a good guess @patjewell which means you would be a very perfect winner of all the editions of the "spy with my little eyes", if it was hosted by someone else.

What is a Satelite

The word satellite confuses people a lot, some people take them to be rockets, i will make a good clarity on what a Satelite is. In our geography class which was always one of my most interesting class due to how practical the subject was, we were taught about planetary bodies and we felt as though we were out of the planet, we were astronomers in our imagination. I once wanted to become an astronomer but due to the phobia I have for height, I wondered how I will leave the earth surface and then float in space, I actually love it here.

A Satelite is known as a small object which rotates, turn and orbit round a bigger one, from this definition we would see that the earth is a Satelite to the sun, the moon is a Satelite to the earth, all these mentioned are natural satellites. Once any statement is made about satellites, it is mostly referred to the artificial satellite launched to the earth surface. These artificial satellite orbits round the earth. Collecting the required information and transferring it back to the different destinations.

A Satelite is winged and fueled for proper functioning. We were asked to draw a Satelite and label its functioning parts which we did. This lecture brought a great awareness to what a Satelite is and how important it is to the earth.

Components of a Satelite

COMPONENTSUSES
AntennaAn antenna on the satellite is used to receive quick signals from the earth
Thermal controlThis component helps guard the satellite from hight temperatures or even cold ones
TranspondersThis component amplifies incoming signals and also amplify outgoing signals
Electric power systemThese consist of solar panels or batteries which keeps the satellite moving.

Satellites have many uses which has been of benefit to us.

  • Communication: Have you wondered how we are able to communicate to friends and others living thousands of kilometers from us? With the help of satellites, informations are transferred in a quick manner and delivered.

  • Weather detection: the use of satellites has helped and made it easier to detect the weather globally.

  • Global positioning System(GPS): Have you gotten into a strange area and you need directions. Navigating through your map(Google map) will show exactly where you are and the roads to use and the time it will take, how do you think this i possible? Through the use of satellites it is very easy to find your way.

Facts about a Satelite

Do you know satellites travels at a high speed that covers over 18000 miles per hour, which makes it orbit around the earth 14times in a day.

There are over 3000 satellites in an orbit around the earth.
