Ten Best Movie Witches?
Anjelica Huston as The Grand High Witch in Nicholas Roeg's The Witches(1990).
Horrornews.net has my article up listing the 10 best movie witches of all time. Looking it over now, however, I realize that I completely slighted Joan Bennett as Madame Blanc in Suspiria (1977). (I haven't seen the remake).
It's still a good list, however. Check it out.
Only in 10th place? This is probably one of my very favorite movie witches but - then again - I grew up with the books of Roald Dahl and watched this film several times as a kid.
How do you like the three witches in The Witches of Eastwick? Watched that film a bunch of times too, in my younger years. I guess it's Jack Nicholson as the devil who steals the show though.
There's actually a number of films in your witches top 10 list that I haven't seen or don't remember to have seen: Eve's Bayou, Night of the Eagle, Bell, Book and Candle, The 1966 The Witches nor your runner up Crowhaven Farm.
I am trying to think of other movie witches that come to mind but am drawing a blank here:
The 1970s Romero flick Season of the Witch is kind of a cool movie but I don't remember its witches.
I like the Blair Witch Project, where you never really see the witch.
Rosemary's Baby and Suspiria are two of my very favorite movies! Haven't seen the latest version of Suspiria ( yet ).
Did some googling and wondered if you've seen Miyazaki's Kiki's Delivery service. A friendly witch in an animated movie. I like that one!
It wasn't supposed to be ranked! My article specifically says that it's not ranked. But the editor added numbers anyway, which kind of ruined the article. Agree that Anjelica Huston would be higher up if it was ranked.
Eve's Bayou is a masterpiece, although not really a horror. I've seen half of Season of the Witch but never finished it. I've not seen Kiki's Delivery Service.
Crowhaven Farm is an old 70s TV movie that's beloved by American Baby Boomers, who watched it when they were kids. There are still a lot of creepy scenes in it that hold up even today. And it features John Carradine. You can probably find a bootleg verions on YouTube or DailyMotion.
Oops. On a second reading, I realize that I only scanned through it ( can't help the multi-tasking ).
I will keep Eve Bayou in mind for future watching.
Obrigado!
