Znap // Sweet 16 With Sprinkles Of Pain // What Did You Do When You Turned 16?
Hey There :)
When I was sixteen, I remember I had a small get together. Three of my closest friends were invited to join the family to cut my birthday cake and we had the standard "Birthday Mee Hoon". That's fried rice noodles, which made an appearance at just about every birthday celebration back then.
Apart from that, I remember one of my aunties had upset me, I can't remember what it was about, but the few pictures I have is of a sullen, sulky teen. So I will save you the agony of having to look at them. haha
My daughter however, has had a couple of requests this year, her 16th year on earth and they involve pain. First it was the braces and then she asked for ears to be pierced.
Just to be clear, she's already had her ears pieced when she was 10 months old. I thought I'd do it then so she wouldn't have to remember pain. The piercing she has been dropping hints since November is the spot on the top half of her ear.
So after some research, we decided against the gun, and opted for the Needle method. While we went around asking goldsmiths in the area we had our Christmas lunch, we discovered there was another way which is clipping. The lady said it was the best method however, they only did earlobes. The top of the ear has carthlidgte and she advised us to find someone who's an expert.
So, we continued with our hunt and thanks to the internet, we found one within the hour though we had to drive to a different place for it. The Gun Method is RM15 and the Needle Method is RM90. And we were advised to go with the Needle (which we wanted to anyways) because it is less painful and the chances of an infection is lower.
Apparently it would take around 2 months to heal. She was given Sea Salt spray and antiseptic cream. She was advised to bring the spray to school and to use it if her ears hurt or itch. She was also advised to be extra careful when washing her hair, not to sleep on her ears, when she did physical activity and just generally be cautious.
What a far cry from what my 16th Birthday was like.hahaha. What was your 16th like? Did you do anything out of the ordinary? Would love to know.

Now that I think about it, I don't remember my 16th at all. All I can remember is when I was about to become 13, because I realized that I would be a teenager. I thought it was odd that that was considered somehow important, since I'd just be a few days older...

Turning 13! Was also a big thing for the kids
It made them feel like they were adults
Ok, interesting that 16 was uneventful
