WATER SHORTAGE AFTER THE TYPHOON

It was all over the news last that the Visayas Region in Philippines experienced one of the strong earthquake I experience since I was born. There were lots of individuals died especially in Northern part due to some buildings and gym collapsed. There were lots of aftershocks, to be specific strong aftershock that made some settlers stayed along the streets for a couple of nights for their safety.

After few days, typhoon TINO, Uwan and Verbena hit the place that caused many individuals lost their loved ones due to heavy flood. And since there were lot of damage due to heavy flood all over Visayas Region especially in Cebu area.
✨REASONS OF WATER SHORTAGE✨

Because of that, there were major damage to water infrastructure and we experienced water shortage. According to my research, Lusaran Dam, a key bulk water resource was heavily damaged and became inaccessible due to the heavy flow of water after typhoon Tino. Added by the collapsed bridged that caused shortage of water production. There were also other facilities like Jacupan and Buhisan Dams that were damaged especially the transmission lines and pipelines. Because of the said damages, it directly affect the operation of major water supply facilities that normally provide a couple of thousands of cubic meters of water daily.
Another cause of water shortage is the slow restoration of damaged systems. Only portions of the system has been restored every week after the storm. It is so hard to repair the damaged pipelines and pumping stations due to the scale of work and difficult access to some sites.
Third reason of water shortage is due to power outage that disrupt water pumping. Water pumping depend heavily on the electricity. Back up generators can help but they cant fully replace full grid power for all critical systems.
Other reason is flooding and access problems. Because of the typhoon, there were roads that cant be access. Some damaged facilities are hard to reach safely that caused delay of repair crews and equipment deployment.
But this water shortage problem will never back us down, we always find ways. Since our electricity was already restored, we bought a pumping machine and connect it to the well and called our neighbor to have some water. Yes we have well but because most of us were working, we dont have enough time to fetch because it is a bit far in our place. And it is also heavy as you carry more pail a day. And thank God for the wisdom He gave to us that we were able to find ways.
And now we were slowly recovering as well as our water supply yet there were still low pressure coming our place but we hope and pray that everything will went well and we will be able to celebrate New Year with a big smile.
Thank you and have a great day everyone! Let us always keep safe.
